Converted RJ-45 Terminal IBM Model M SSK 1392980

With a controller swap (swapping for an IBM SSK-specific controller) I converted this RJ-45 terminal SSK to a working regular one, with the SDL receptacle and working SSK Num Lock functionality on the lettered keys. No soldering was needed - just a 5.5mm thin wall nut driver for the case screws.

I have some closeups of the key cap legends showing that they were different for this system: Return, Clear, Erase, Reset, Send, Hold, Print Line, etc.

This one was brand new with no packaging, still with the plastic covering the curly RJ-45 attached cable (photos are post-controller replacement).

I also tested swapping the terminal SSK controller for a 1391401 Model M controller and it works except for the embedded Number Pad functionality.

This one has the drainage channels and is from 1993. I also opened up the keyboard to show how clean the insides can be without the hair and gunk from months or years of usage built up and without the key textures worn down and made more shiny by usage.

I'm used to the Reset and Send keys from my terminal Ms. But were those integrated numpad keys really on this model before the controller swap?

Yes the terminal SSK 1392980 boards had those side-printed key legends. All the pictured keys came with the board.

Yep the etc legend is in all caps - not too common.
