Re: Wyse PCe glitching?
Reporting back -- It was the electrolytic capacitors. I didn't check which one of the two it was, but replacing them with brand new equal-value caps has it running directly in a PS/2 port, and (after some fiddling) through my converter. I've been working on this keyboard now for about 3 years on and...

Re: Wyse PCe glitching?
Electrolytic capacitors should always be considered suspect. The fact your board's working fine for a little while, then goes wrong, also points to them. They sound like they're only barely still working, having leaked quite a bit. That was my suspicion as well. I'll replace them (when I get some) ...

Wyse PCe glitching?
I have a beautiful Wyse PCE keyboard that I am trying to restore, and (after cleaning the switches and putting it all back together) I've found that it starts to glitch after a little bit of typing. Sometimes after plugging in, it just doesn't register any keypresses, but that is solved with pluggin...

Re: Vintage Blacks cleaning, matching parts
No particular reason to keep them together. Good luck with the sonic'ing - the quality of ultrasound cleaners seems highly variable! Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how good this one is. I'm getting some scale off, but I may need to run it for longer on the particularly grimy ones. I'm currently going ...

Vintage Blacks cleaning, matching parts
I have a pile of vintage blacks that I pulled out of a Wyse PCE (for restoration!), and they're filthy. Covered in corrosion from the PCB, gunk, etc. I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I picked up from Amazon, and I'd like to clean the switches properly. However, I really don't want to spend a bunch ...

Wyse PCE screw size
I got a project Wyse PCE keyboard off the street the other day, and have been trying to restore it. However, I have misplaced the screws for the chassis. Does anyone have one of these who can figure out the size/thread pitch of them, so I can order replacements? Also, Wyse has made the process of re...

Re: [IC] IBM M2F Conversion Kit
Main trouble is the availability of cases. I (and many others) have done cut-down mods on full-sized Ms in the past, but they're messy and really hard to get right.
To avoid scope-creep, probably best to stick with the one SKU.

Re: [IC] IBM M2F Conversion Kit
Wow! Really happy to see this project!
I still have a bag of flippers from a busted-up XT from back in the old project; it'd be good to have something to use them on.
Is the goal to support full-size only?

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
There are a few projects out there for cutting down a full-size M case to fit the SSK form factor (I have one, posted in this thread, somewhere), so that is always an option. I recall that there was a plan to buy a bunch of loose cases from Unicomp (industrials, IIRC), but I don’t know what ever hap...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
Wow! Welcome back! I’ve been moving around a lot the last while, and each time I go through my bag of XT barrels, wondering if they’d be used again. Very glad that they will be!
Is this picking up right where it left off?

More than a month has passed, so bump bump :) A month has already passed since the last bump! Woah. There is no chance of this project coming back from the looks of it, but hope that atleast the rich users here can get this conversion kit. ;) LL will return when he's ready. I'm not so impatient tha...

Sorry to say something at this stage, but would it be possible to make the plates compatible with xt barrels? Is the only difference in the position of the pin, which in AT is at 4 o' clock, while in xt is at 6? This could be interesting because xt replacements cost less. Don't worry- it's already ...

As for "how's everyone" - I joined the ranks of Facebook 3 weeks ago, trying to drink from bootcamp firehose. I just got a new job, and, as I feared, they're a little iffy on clicky keyboards. So either this will be for home use only, or I'll need to find a way to damp away some of the noise. (In the meantime, I've shacked up with a FC980C) So I'll all ears about good ways to silence. Do we have a list of a...

If either of you do decide to do the paper mod, I will say that it is a bit tricky to do properly. The paper has to be not too small, or it will simply deform the leaf. The trick is to put pressure on the flaps of the leaf to make it stop acting like a mini-clicky switch. Another way of doing it is ...

Alps are a great bet. Orange Alps (like I saw you posting about) are fabulous. I use a 60% of SKCM Alps at work and love it to death. If it is a bit loud (or you are a Type-S Topre lover), you can silence it even more in a few ways. 1) Slider swap: I use a Orange-Damped Cream hybrid switch, with cre...

Some years ago I also did some experiments with thin rubberband instead of floss... But it affected the feel too much. It just felt not right. The single key mod feels quite nice, both in sound and feel - will see what happens after modding the whole keyboard and after some use time :) This this wi...

Thanks seebart for the offer. I'm sure a couple people (maybe myself included) will take you up on it. I don't think it's worth the hassle of tracking the badges down from LL. From me, it was only a couple bucks, and I ordered a bunch. Our thoughts are with LL and his family. There isn't much more t...

If you put a bit of carbon on the spring (rub a pencil on it), and then put a small slip of paper in the barrel, you'll be able to see where the spring contacts the paper. If you take a couple samples, I suspect they will all contact at about the same place. A dab of silicon there would be interesti...

My Paypal order was on November 30th; 6 months is the end of May. If he was going to pull an Ivan, his timing is a bit off. I still believe DT is full of nicer people, and like some members told me (compared to GH), is basically harmless, e.g. to join GB etc. I am not into M or F but I am keeping an...
