I made a stencil using some backing board, cutting it with an exacto knife until it was small enough to fit. Then i printed out some labels made in Inkscape and cut them to the stencil~

I had one of these in a similar situation... the power LED would turn on but no input at all was going through. The caps were still measuring alright, so I did some poking around elsewhere and determined that the controller likely failed. I cut my losses, took off all the switches and bought one of ...

I hope someone figures out the HIL protocol eventually (didnt Hasu acquire something with it recently? Hmm..!), these boards are really rad and I'd have even one of the domed variants around if I could use it on something.

I use mine with some tmk firmware to convert it to USB and it works reasonably well. It tends to drop the connection sometimes which, I always figured might be because I don't have a pull-up resistor on my teensy, but I've never looked too deep into the problem.

LCM in Seattle has one of these on display, if you ask nicely they'll turn it on and let you play with some punch cards. The typing experience reminds me of a teletype, what with the whole machine vibrating each time you press a key. The key-feel was similar to a Selectric mostly, if I recall.

Wonder how these feel in comparison to the old trackpoint and Thinkpad boards Unicomp did. Those were stiffer domes as well, but I oddly enjoyed them as an interesting change of pace.

For what it's worth, the yellowing has only been observed so far on keyboards with one piece stems. Unicomp seems to have only done that for a short period of time, anything recent should be unaffected.

Edit: Pics time: 20170513_020529501_iOS.jpg My wimpy Iphone camera isn't enough to accurately photograph, but upon further investigation I've discovered that the sides on many of the alpha block caps are beginning to yellow in spots as well. My 08 vintage Unicomp has also started yellowing the in last year or so in roughly the same shade. Mine's doing it a bit less uniformly though, currently only affecting (if I'm remembering correctly off the top of my head) the Caps Lock, Spacebar, and Insert keys. Have been meaning to do the acetone...

I've been able to dye ABS with iDye poly in near boiling water with a mesh strainer. It only takes a few seconds for the pigment to bond, I place the caps in the strainer and submerge in the water for about 4-5 seconds before pulling them back out to cool. Only need to do this a few times to get goo...

Lovely paint job on the Omnikey, works great with the SGI caps.

How do you like those tactile space invaders, by the way? There's at least one nos left on eBay but opinions about the grey tactiles are hard to find.

My problem with linear Cherries is mainly that they are scratchy and badly weighted; blacks are too stiff and reds too light. Vintage MX blacks, as I showed in one of my videos, are noticeably smoother, but they're even stiffer, so they're still not ideal. It's this. My hands fatigue with blacks, a...
