And Cherry is 11/10 cause you don't have to repair them after 30 years due to missing rivets or bad foam?

Re: Cherry appreciation topic

Once I am done with some stuff, I will post my Honeywell branded G80-0528. Well, it's not actually a G80-0528, it's a different model number on the PCB. I believe it was G80-0689? I also got a very interested unbranded Model F XT clone board. It's honestly very well built, with OG Cherry Doubleshot...

Re: Nixdorf Soft-click (G80-0801)

Time for a necro :D Some people might be curious which keys are pad printed and which are doubleshot. I marked all the pad printed keys on this photatoe: G80-0801.jpg Some minor facts about these boards: - The space bar has a clicky mx gray switch - There are G80-0801 boards with a speaker on the to...

Re: Does Your Ideal Mouse Exist?

I still have a G9x without cable somewhere but I can't share your enthusiasm for it. I really hated the stiff middle click of the scroll wheel. In the end I used the "scroll right" function of the mouse as my middle click...

So they needed over a year from the announcement to the first actual pictures?

Looks like a very steep profile, not sure if that works well on modern boards which are rather flat.

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

It slightly reminds me of an HP computer but I will try and research more a bit later. Of course keyboards built into desks were the superior choice for long hours compared to these un-ergonomic systems This is such an awesome design. There is a working one for sale in Germany, sadly it's not cheap...

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

UV exposure can be the reason for yellowing but sometimes there are other reasons. It depends on the used plastic. On my Beamspring only engraved keycaps were yellowed, I don't think that peroxide would help then. I'd rather keep it the way it currently is instead of taking the risk

I hope you still use a beamspring or similar things. The Model M/F, Alps SKC* and Cherry MX were all low profile switches back then.

Re: Objective reasons for using a mechanical keyboard

p.s. I had a ready-to-produce CNC model (a copy of a very basic Korean case design) and asked a Chinese CNC factory to produce an aluminium case for me, the total cost including very decent anodizing was around $110 - we can see that Tofu cases at $88 is actually earning some money. If I know CAD a...

Re: Price Check: How much is my _____ worth?

It's super clean so you can probably get a bit more. These boards aren't really sought, especially in iso, but you always find some people who'll like them. I'd say it's worth up to 50€ for this one due to the condition but it really depends on whether you find an apple enthusiast or not.

Re: HHKB refresh in 2019?

Even charging a keyboard once per week is rather troublesome compared to the ~ 3 months of the original hhkb bluetooth (which is pretty bad itself compared to "normal" keyboards which sometimes last over a year). Custom bluetooth software is sadly pretty bad so far.

Re: HHKB refresh in 2019?

The battery time of the hasu controller sounds pretty horrible though. At that price I'd rather buy the original hhkb bt instead. Do we know whether the USB hub is the reason for the power draw? In that case there should be a noticeable difference between the Pro 1 and Pro 2 boards. I guess in the e...

Re: HHKB refresh in 2019?

I'm mostly fine with the "missing" keys by now but sometimes I miss my right ctrl key. Especially with some chat software you might need ctrl+enter combos which always require two hands on an hhkb while you only need one hand for it on a "normal" board. The missing iso key is really unfortunate as i...

Re: HHKB refresh in 2019?

There are some big issues of the hhkb jp for an iso user: - the zxc row is shifted by 0,25u and not standard (2u shift instead of 2,25u shift - no right shift key in a normal/usable position (unless you wanna use the 1u \ key as a shift key - no 2u backspace The later two things are obviously due to...

I can‘t take ModelM praise seriously any more. You‘re either a troll or a noob if you claim the Model M is good for anything other than filling material when pouring a concrete foundation. Come on, Wodan, just because the plastic rivets in a Model M will inevitably break some time you cannot be so ...

Re: Not Sure I'm Happy with Cherry MX...

- Also Cherry, is it so hard to mount the switch on a plate instead on a PCB? They did that on old boards and they do that on some of their newer boards. But what's the point? I think that the pcb mount boards feel and sound way better than the plate mounted ones. Sure, they are a bit lighter compa...

Re: Which keyboard to buy?

You could get an anne pro as your first board. It's not super silent but you should get a decent entry level board that fits your budget and which can also be customized with other keycaps (which isn't that easy with the hhkb).

Cherry 1u Caps Lock with a circular LED window?
It's the old "window" style. On many of these boards it's just drilled into the cap after the normal doubleshot key was made. And I think there are also ones where the whole was infilled afterwards.

A model F XT is around 100$ these days (that's like 1,2$ per set), with some patience you can find them for less as well. That's still worth it compared to some group buy with no end in sight imo.
