The Santa Clara meetup on March 28th is cancelled due to coronavirus fears. That will be our new status quo, until a Vaccine is finally produced and tested. Thanks Elrick. MX is a flawed design, though, and there's only so long before people start thinking about if there could be something better than MX switches. You can only go so far with such a design. Indeed but that switch hasn't arisen yet onto the retail market. Keep hoping there will be someth...

Re: Reproducing Alps Keycaps (IC)

Given that Tai-Hao has double-shot Alps molds they are using for their ABS keycaps, why couldn't they make double-shot PBT caps with those? Are the molds non-interchangeable for different plastics? Speaking personally, any OEM PBT Alps keycaps that include a modern bottom row would be a win. It's a...

I don't like slippery keys. I think ABS has the best feel, but ABS gets shiny ... And you can change them in time. That's the glory of the Cherry MX style. I always change my key-caps every six months due to boredom and trying another colour way. I have no idea how this new Das Keyboard will go wit...

AT101 Alps profile. For stabs, MX mount/Matias are probably the best option. I will have to do more research on that, and ask around to see if there are any other choices. Edit: Alps mount looks like the way to go. It will have to be determined by where the keycaps go, and if they are going to be a...

It is kind of strange to try to reverse think the reason for the extreme bezel size. So often what seems like a reasonable design choice relies on considerations so far from what we can imagine. The huge Bezel size is what attracts all those that appreciate the importance of this design. Having som...

Re: Cleaning ALPS switches with Dent tabs vs ultrasonic?

Denture tabs are mildly abrasive, contain some H₂O₂ and are mint-scented, so they are not 100.00% safe, no. Every cleanser has a chemical that might affect certain plastics, otherwise with no chemical cleanser, nothing is washed at all by only using plain H₂O. You have to use something to remove an...
