Re: Future of DT
I plan to comment some time tomorrow, as I don't feel like writing a long post right now, but I'm writing this now to remind myself to post tomorrow. So here's the TL;DR: for now. I support Ellipse buying Deskthority, as the most important thing for me is keeping it alive (and not switching it to ot...

Re: Future of DT
I'm up for doing it as a community group buy. My only two requirements for when we get it back are the following:
1. Not moving the forum away from phpBB
2. Not moving the wiki away from MediaWiki

Re: Future of DT
The recent several days downtime was long enough to finally get me on "DT" Discord. I’m just more at home on a forum with persistent state than live text. Same. Although, I love Deskthority's IRC channel. P.S. Since they are offering to sell the forum back to the community, the ball is really in ou...

Re: Future of DT
Since they are offering to sell the forum back to the community… They are? Gee, if only there were some sort of forum they could conduct this conversation on about the future of our forum. Haha. I know, right. Also, yeah. They are. I remember a post from webwit I think, that they are looking to sel...

Re: Deskthority Secret Santa 2023
In your opinion, what's one's best course of action when they want to participate but don't have any retro keyboards to gift? Buy stuff from giftee's wishlist directly from ebay and things? Send them just money and candy? Or? The receiver's username is not revealed (to prevent doxing). Participants...

Heat inserts on Model M Barrel Plate?
I have a Model M that needs bolt modding (will go with screws instead of nut/bolt combo) and I saw someone in other post mention the idea of using heat inserts in the barrel plate so it can be in theory safer to open up the keyboard assembly more frequently. Is that a bad idea? Has anyone tried it? ...

Re: Deskthority Secret Santa 2023
Unfortunately, I can't afford it to participate this year, but I do have a question: Since currently, I don't have many vintage keyboards, let alone ones I'd part with, besides buying a keyboard from someone's wishlist from ebay for them, would it be shitty to just gift money to your giftee and mayb...

Re: The mystery of DT's new owner - SOLVED
I'd love to buy it but unfortunately I can't afford it.
I just hope whoever does, doesn't migrate it to a Discourse type of platform *gagging noises* or migrate the wiki to some shitty third world wiki software attempt.

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
Don't have a picture yet, but couldn't wait to post that I finally have a Model M (IBM Enhanced Keyboard). It's a second gen, white oval label (1391401) in US ANSI, with a removable PS/2 cable, manufactured on 26 Sep 1988 in the USA. The vertical keys use stabilizer bars though, like on the first gen.

I know, right?!
But seriously though, I don't want Unicomp as I'm trying to match the rest of the original keys on the keyboard.

[WTB][EU-BG] IBM Model M 'U' key top
I'm looking for a non-Unicomp, IBM Model M 'U' key top. Ideally, from a second gen IBM Enhanced Keyboard so there's the highest chance of there being no difference between it and the rest of the keycaps already on the board. If it's from someone located in the EU, even better, as I am really not loo...

I think it's just the nature of this hobby to be in and out. I've been a member of GH since 2011, but if I look at my post history there's really only 3-4 periods where I was active on the site. Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
I’ve actually gotten into the habit of assigning launch keys to certain documents (via shell scripts in Karabiner) rather than apps. That’s a real time saver for instant access to regularly edited / referenced stuff. Quicker to hit a key to bring them to the front than to even bother managing windo...

I’ve done my share of hoping through the years. Sign me up for a stiff shot of “man, we thought it was bad under MassDrop but they well and truly ruined that place like a two dollar girl of ill-repute.” It’s my version of Pascal’s wager. Glass half empty? The only way is up! ;) You are probably rig...

Re: Corsair is buying Drop
Personally, I'm hoping for the following: - Drop will remain the same - Geekhack will remain the same - Corsair will start offering better keyboards. At least with other plate mounting styles besides just plate mounting. I don't know if it's realistic to hope that they will start producing metal cas...

Project update: I have just approved the Model M style cases to enter production. Due to some quality issues it took many months extra to get the quality to where it is now. Here's one photo from the approved sample - the gap in the back looks nice now. Now the cases have to be die cast, drilled, a...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
Tell me more about yours. Not much to tell, really. https://github.com/dmaone/CommonSense, runs on previously-unobtainium, but now back in stock (albeit $20 now, not $15) CY8CKIT-059, passes USB2-CV, has no static protection. Can read capacitive, inductive and ohmic switches. MCU is ~$9.50@25 parts...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
In this context though - I do agree with DMA. We do need something better than QMK. While I like the widespread support it's gotten and the features it implements, I am not really happy with how it does some stuff and how it implements others. I do have an idea for my own firmware, but that would b...

But then the chances of me ever pulling out the Terminal and typing git update -fuckitallup YES on a firmware I already use and consider feature complete are right up there with compiling my kernel from source. Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
Second of all, the USB specification requires it, so you are literally breaking the specification in your implementation. What about the 1000s × more of us who don't design PCBs, don't write firmwares, and never will? Should we just let our keyboards lie useless, because of some coder jihad we neit...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
Just curious: I assume these are not included in the official QMK repo for a reason. Why might that be if they have such broad usage? Sorry if that’s another stupid question. I'm not even sure why QMK has such a wide apparent usage when it's not even really HID-compliant. Probably because they are ...
