Re: DIY Custom Keyboards?

What are you trying to achieve by building your own board? If you just want to try some specific caps and switches, there are "hot swap" barebones boards you can buy and populate with the features of your choice. Are you more interested in custom firmware features? Look for something with QMK suppo...

I don't see Backlighting as "Bells and Whistles". It is for many highly useful.

Someone here might have some ideas but that might also be more of a Reddit question than a Deskthority question because the Reddit community has more folks interested in what you’re asking about.
I was under the impression that a lot of Users here have Built their Keyboards.

DIY Custom Keyboards?

So I watched this YouTube Video on a DIY ~$100 Keyboard. Pricing isn't bad for something to check out... However not sure if I could use a 60% Board instead of a full size or TKL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYYbUB7gvD0 I would like to start out with a TKL first as I don't use the Keypad nowhere...

Re: Bucking Springs, worth it?

This may just be an Urban Legend, but is it true that someone beat the crap out another person with an IBM Keyboard? I heard this in this 80's. The KB afterward still worked. Us oldsters will remember this as the victim of a burglary (think Humphrey Bogart) catching a burglar in the act and clobber...

Re: Bucking Springs, worth it?

Who actually needs RGB? Just turn on the lights (but not too bright) Might was well stick an LED light bar under your monitor to illuminate your keys if your monitor isn't bright enough on it's own. The new Model Fs are incredible value for what they are, they're cheaper than the Fs of yore ev...

Re: Bucking Springs, worth it?

Generally people who like vintage boards aren't into rgb. Generally people who type on AZIO Retros won't be into buckling springs or any of the aesthetic that goes along with it. But if you really want it, there are ways to make it happen. Well the AZIO Retros are nice and all that, but the design ...

Bucking Springs, worth it?

I may be just misremember things but I would have sworn that the Computer Keyboards of the '80's were a lot better in both Feel and Sound. This includes the 8-bit Systems like Atari, Commodore, and Apple IIe lines. The IBM XT and AT were really nice heavy as well. Now I'm using Kailh Blue Switches i...

I agree with you about that, for what their workstations cost, SGI should have shipped keyboards that matched their prices They certainly should. When I said "surprised" I hope it didn't sound like I was quibbling, more that I was unimpressed with them! Though I doubt it was necessarily a case of t...

I'm not surprised. Dell had a much larger volume of sales than SGI did, so they could get a good good deal on decent keyboards then then what SGI could. I guess I'm surprised: shipping a workstation costing £thousands with a £5 keyboard instead of a £100 keyboard seems a bit cheap. I mean my origin...
