I would suggest either rubber nubs/feet on the bottom, or get a large mousepad-like mat to place it on.

Shapeways is pretty neat, but can be quite costly... might be more practical for smaller 60% cases or novelty keycaps. The design and demo look incredible, dox!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's essentially the same board, just with a track pad instead of a track ball. Cherry is the manufacturer of the Compaq board so it's the same quality, and being that the switches are PCB mounted, it's easy to mod them. So the cherry branded board is easier to mod? ...

Interestingly, spray paints for metal surfaces like Krylon X-Metals will absorb into softer plastics like ABS very well. If the keys are pad printed, I imagine the paint won't have an effect on that, since it isn't plastic, and will wipe off. As for lasered keys, the lettering should still be visibl...
