No they're not compatible because of the pinout. You could probably make it work by swapping the Dupont connectors on the 2 cables and solder them back.

Re: Internal Soarer's Converter from scratch (beginner friendly)
It's actually a selectric shift key, couldn't fit it into the normal way but fits perfectly upside down hahaIggy wrote:Awesome guide!
Oh, your beamspring has the right shift upside down. Fortunately there's a back-up key right above it.

Internal Soarer's Converter from scratch (beginner friendly)
Hi guys! This guide is for absolute beginners and is a step by step guide on creating an internal Soarer's Converter. For reference, here's the end product: 1.jpg This adaptor is designed for IBM's Model F but can definitely be re-purposed for other keyboards. It's powered by a Pro Micro (Teensy clo...

Re: How to assemble a model F? (PLEASE)
I've restored 4 or 5 XT, an AT and a 122. The F122 is by far the hardest to get the sandwiching plates together. XT is still doable by hand while the F122 is completely not doable without appropriate tools for it.

Re: How Rare is the IBM Model F Displaywriter?
I think it was sold as a replacement keyboard for the original, so it'll definitely be rarer than the original. I've never seen them on eBay, although it'd probably fetch a lower price than the beamspring brother.

Re: PCB for the 50-key IBM 4740
Yes, you I have previously confirmed that the 4704 Model F50 PCB fits the M49/M50 and internal assemblies are identical. All you would need is to remake the same PCB and add Model F hammers and an xwhatsit and you would be good to go. If anyone can design the PCB, I can run the group buy and even s...

Re: Black IBM Model F122 restoration
After looking through OP's post, I feel my F122 refurbishment was completely slipshod. The keys on mine feels a bit dull, and some feel 'loose' compared to my XT. Maybe I'm asking too much since I have a perfectly restored beamspring and XT, but damn do I want my F122 to feel perfect as well. Defini...

Re: PCB for the 50-key IBM 4740
I think it'll be relatively simple to build one for the M50! They already have the metal plates, all we need is the PCB and Model F flippers and it'll practically be the same as the 4704 F50.

Are the keycaps really blue? I know that actual light blue selectric caps exist but they are rarer than unicorn hair. I've added some black selectric caps and I'm now itching for some actual blue caps for my beamer.

The 'fake' caps can be converted by simply pulling the white plastic ring out. It's essentially a disabled key.

It's definitely a Model M, I've got one and opened it up before and it's membrane is exactly like an M. If anyone could design a PCB I'll love to test turning this into a full F.

xwhatsit's capsense controller already has support Model F and is fully open sourced. It could just be built on with a Bluetooth controller and battery. No need to recreate the controller. But it ain't right now, or is it? I don't see your point. More importantly, you can't 'just' slap on a BT modu...

I can't help but wonder HOW exactly it is be done. I *guess* that the driver does not instruct the keyboard itself to change the scan codes it sends, but rather would craft a TSR to be used on to the PC itself (loaded on AUTOEXEC.BAT).
