Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses
SKCM/SKCL are very easy to open with the right technique. You don't even need to desolder the board, you can open the switches in the plate.

Re: The mystery of DT's new owner - SOLVED
Sometimes people join the Discord asking about why forum registration doesn't work (with Gmail domains). That's been a long running problem I'd really like to see fixed.

Yeah. The Model F is a very polite feeling switch. Beamsprings are shockingly gentle compared to what someone might expect based on their reputation too. They have nice tactility. But it's not overbearing or extremely pronounced. The idea that MOST TACTILIEST = good is new and mainly born out of peo...

Re: The mystery of DT's new owner - SOLVED
AFAIK it was quite a bit more than 4 digits. Not that you can easily put a price on a community in the first place. Hell the DT Discord server seems to get more traffic than the DT forums proper. And that's a shame. Discord is a nightmare to search and it all exists at the whim of a somewhat caprici...

Didn't you get a 5251 from another community member for a very good price then you slagged them after the case got damaged in shipping even though they were shipping you a replacement case? And after all that you were looking to sell it before you even got the replacement case... Crazy enough I had ...

Re: Noob question re G80-1800
When you swap PCBs in a G81 for one that used MX switches usually all you're keeping is the case and keycaps. Later MY boards use keycaps that have built in stabilizers and won't work with MX stabilizers. As for PCBs there are many options out there but personally I think the E80-1800 is the best op...

IIRC it isn't for sale. 999 RMB on Xianyu means it's a "flex post" and not something they actually intend to sell.

Do you expect serious offers when you can't even be bothered to share photos of the boards you're selling?
If I didn't know better I'd think you wanted your inbox flooded with offers of "tree fiddy".
Which beamer are you selling, a numpadless 3278? The smaller data entry model of the 5251?

TMK is another options for converting XT. Has instructions for building your own that apply to both TMK and Soarer's.

Re: Total Destruction Suggestions Requested
The moral high road would be to send it back to the seller at your expense. Your conscience will be clear, and they'll most likely resell it to someone else, rather than it getting destroyed. edit: ...and you should include a note saying you just couldn't destroy it. Seller sends wrong item and doe...
Re: M-like?
Take a look at the FeXT project. You can swap flippers and springs from an F into an M assembly with a custom PCB and controller and get a F that looks like an M.

This thing got a bit crushed in postage (most of the numrow switches are crushed) then I fried it on US power.
So... well if you need switches I have some.

There is no such thing as a non-mechanical mouse. Certainly not in the sense that people are missing out on a golden age of “good” mice which came before. There is no 80s IBM Model F of mice compared to the domes over membrane of (not even) today. There is no scourge of chiclet mice. They’re honest...

Re: Best practice for removing alps
These switches are much easier to remove Once the PCB has been removed.
Since you can squeeze the latches and press them out by hand. Removing from the top will always be challenging and if you're relying on clamping force instead of just squeezing the latches it'll be pretty brutal.

Re: Leather keycap for FILCO Miinlar
Those look really nice. As far as durability is concerned it won't be the best, but compared to some other keyset there (like the TEX ADA set on your other board) it'll do reasonably well. I've had good luck with laser etched PBT, but lasered black POM often grabs dirt and the white legends turn bro...

Embrace chaos and pick up an old JP Realforce on Yahoo auctions.
Yeah, you'll have to proxy it, but even with those fees it'll be cheaper and give you more keys.

Re: Fixing IBM Model F AT "WEIRD" SPACEBAR
They got so much mileage out of the Datamaster/5291/F XT assembly and wanted to have more options for later boards using the AT PCB. I don't think they expected to adopt the M so soon after the F AT.

Re: Mods complete, would like to introduce you to my Mini M. I named it "mPossible", can you tell me why?
I think the caps came from a board with a curved backplate (which is why the profile fits so well).
I guess you could hollow out the caps and fit them onto 2 piece stems.
But then the bottom row would require extensive barrel plate modification.

Nice job.
Those caps aren't from a M13 either.
I have questions.
