Re: Dear Model F owners, can we talk? (Long rant)

Hey this is a cool thread :) Very interesting point about keyboard snobbery. I've had a couple of M's back-in-the-day and always loved them, but got rid of them eventually for the dumbest of reasons (no windows key, just kinda 'big' compared to other boards, etc.). I got into the hobby years ago as ...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I tried searching this thread with a couple of keywords but couldn't find an answer. So hopefully not a too common question: I've ran my F77 for a day since I got it, and noticed that on certain keys and in certain conditions, I get two characters instead of one. This mainly happens to the letter 'M...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I ordered my board in June 2017, and Monday my F77 came in the mail. A hair shy of five years haha :) It took a bit of fiddling to get all keys moving smoothly, but now it's working perfectly. I'm absolutely loving it, thanks Joe for all the work you put into this! One thing I noticed is that there ...

Re: Model M with a single non-working key

Short update! I repaired the open part with a electronic ink pen and boltmodded the board. It's working perfectly now! Some observations: - Screwing in the bolts in the barrel assembly is really hard in between the barrels, next time I'll use a larger drill to create a centering hole. - Keeping the ...

Re: Model M with a single non-working key

I bit the bullet and removed the rivets to have a look. It turns out one of the lines towards the key has been interrupted by some sort of 'rot', a small 1mm blister in the line. Should be easy to correct with conductive ink I think. Time to order a bunch of bolts I guess :)

Re: Model M with a single non-working key

Yes, that's what I mean, the little controller board that is pressed against the membrane contacts. The rivets are in perfect state, not one missing. This is also the reason I hope to try other fixes because its a bit of a shame to boltmod the entire thing because of one not working key.

Model M with a single non-working key

Hi! I have a model M lying around I got from someone. It's a clean IBM blue badge one and its looks to be in a perfect state. Apart from one thing that is; the left CRTL key does not register. ALL other keys work fine. I've tried to reseated the key, but the action works like all the others, also it...

Cherry MX 1800 (German)

Very clean Cherry MX 1800, PS2, Cherry MX Black linear switches.
Pleasure to type on, but I don't use DE (German) layout and I don't want to bother re-key capping the whole thing.

Cool restore man! Typing on an XT now which I restored in the same fashion. Did have to replace my foam with 3mm neoprene because the old foam was rotten away to nothing. Funny to see yours held up so well.

If you have no intention of ever using it, why bother? In my opinion rubbish is only elevated to 'vintage collectible' if it represents something significant like being the peak of engineering excellence, or is still practically usable. If its not that, its just rubbish and is better recycled.

Doesn't that go the other way? XT keyboard on a USB port? Sounds to me like Clavius is trying to run what's effectively a USB keyboard (model F XT board with a converter) on a PS/2 port. The mentioned converter solves my immediate problem, namely XT->PS/2. It would be nice to have USB->PS/2 though,...

Dang, at that price you would be better off just finding a Model F AT and using a passive adapter. You think that's compatible with a simple converter? Interesting suggestion, although kind of a last resort  Pick up a Win98 era ThinkPad with USB but without WiFi for about €30? Ok, I forgot to ...

Inverted Soarer's converter

I spend a lot of time writing and one of the things I noticed is that I have the tendency to habitually open the browser every few minutes to check news/forums/email/cat videos. Obviously this breaks my concentration. I've tried a few things like hiding the browser icon and switching off my network ...

Honestly? Usually, by the time I'm editing the video, I've already switched to the next thing I want to do a video about. With this one I genuinely found myself not wanting to swap. I did switch to my secondary keyboard (I generally have one on hand for use during filming) when playing games, but r...

Great review Thomas! I'm a bit confused though by the degree that people seem to revere beamsprings. I get the impressive build quality, unique keyfeel and simply the rarity and therefore prestige of having one, but as a keyboard per se? The ridiculous height of the whole thing, especially at the fr...

I've been happily typing away on a IBM model F XT 5155 (the portable personal computer one ;) ) for a while now, but yesterday evening my numpad 6 stopped registering.
