Re: Repair or replace cable on Lexmark Model M13

It's ruined. You need to sell it. Preferably to me at discounted price of course. :D But seriously. It's a hard question to answer, if you don't know what you're after. Personally I would replace the cable. Not hunt for original replacement by the way. But straight up buy shielded wire from electron...

You don't program it. There's already firmware on it. You just have to wire it properly and it'll work.
Keyboard matrix is in the documentation of the chip.

Finally a proper case for the Vortex ViBE https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22099 Simple idea, good execution. Final result looks great. I think this one is worthy of DTA nomination. Winners for each category will get a wingnut. Not sure if and who will get a gold one. I think the one wit...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

The best vintage keyboards out there, in my opinion, are Model Fs (all models) and ones with ALPS switches. Vintage cherry MX blacks also recieve a worthy mention. Or criminally neglected typewriters with Marquardt Butterfly switches. Which do require a bit of effort to get up and running but are h...

Re: Stuff I got in China (Poll)

An Olivette keyboard with Snap-Action switches. Works in similar principle as the Alps Plate Spring and IBM Beamspring. How does it feel? Pretty JUNK-Scratchy, inconsistent, shallow travel. Don't even sound that good on this board. Overall, not very good. Well that's dissapoiting. Scratching this o...

If it's supposed to be reproduction of a switch any deviation from original defeats the point.
So mx stems don't make sense really.

I don't really feel the same. I've been happy typing/playing games with model m buckling spring, clicky smks, and kailh box whites.
+1
Sold entire collection (with few exceptions), simply because it was collecting dust.
Now using only one type of switch that suits my needs.

Re: Wip - Fully custom tkl with some extras

- The case was and still is the biggest problem. I've 3D printed a base and a top plate using PLA. Again, unexperience bit me. I've used PLA for the print, which apparently contracts and warps more than ABS. When the base came, the screw supports did not align with the PCB screw holes. A lot of glu...

You have to check if there's no IC on the keyboard module itself. Typewriters with screens often have decoder/demultiplexer in them. If there's none, figuring the matrix is the best way like zrrion said.

As much as I understand the dislike for destroying old tech. The truth of it is...
People can do whatever they want with their stuff. And there's enough collectors around to safe at least some of it.

Re: Fortune Systems looooong keyboard with Digitran capacitive switches (conversion)

Connect positive lead to any free pin on the controller. Negative to the ground. The rest is software really. Set the pin as output and change the state (High, Low) when button is pressed. If the buzzer is to loud add resistor in series to the positive lead. High resistance = lower volume. Or add po...

Re: Most durable vintage switches?

I think reparability is as important as the durability itself. Pretty much this. Would even say it's more important. Since durability in this case means "how long it takes till the inevitable dust and gunk will affect the feel". And every keyboard sooner or later will be affected. Ease of maintenan...

Re: PSA: Soarer's "Simple Logic Analyzer" exists and it's awesome

I suspect it’s also because most all of us have no idea what to do with a logic analyser. How do you turn those square wave patterns into a keyboard converter? You can extract binary scancodes from it. Data square wave, up is 1 down is 0. Then convert them to the one supported by current operating ...

Re: Help with flashing Soarer's converter

I give up. Have no clue what's wrong. Either it's:
1. Busted wiring (data - clock cables swapped)
2. Busted chip on the controller or some part of the controller board.
3. Some exotic protocol which I seriously doubt. IBM was all about standardization and compatibility.

Re: Help with flashing Soarer's converter

R05 - timeout - started receiving clock from the board, but didn't receive enough for a full code
R06 - start bit - read a start bit, but it was incorrect

Come to think of it maybe it's a busted cable. Do you have multimeter by any chance?
Checking continuity and pinout may help.

The backspace icon should never have been an arrow, considering all other arrows in the keyboard indicate movement. The ⌫ symbol (and ⌦ for the Delete key) from the typewriter era should have been retained, and that would have led us to live in a slightly happier world. True. Would add to that doub...

More like "I can't get it to work cause weird protocol" or "was cleaning the caps, and can't put it back together".
