Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

The first one looks like SMK Vintage linear. I know I have seen the second one somewhere… Are SMK Vintage switches supposed to be even remotely smooth? These aren't in any event, and the build quality (plastic used in the cross) looks lower than on pics of SMK Vintage switches. [...] Took me a whil...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

Hi there - new here but very much bitten by the bug... Picked up these two recently, expecting to easily be able to identify them, but neither has any identifying marks I can find. Both seem pretty CP/M-ish. The first has incredible thick ABS keycaps, but other than that feels very cheap & rough. T...

Re: SKCM ALPS - Switchplate repair

Well, you're gonna have to replace the switchplates. Maybe open them up and spray them with contact cleaner? If that doesn't work, you're gonna need to replace the switchplate.

Also: changing the switchplate shouldn't really change the feel of the switch?

Yes, Rafi-made for sure!

Myoth: I actually found an NMB board with space invaders in a practically identical case. What made you assume it's sliders-over-dome?
The caps, probably. The profile is very different for SI.

Okay, that's not a ps/2 keyboard.

See that SGI copyright? That means its an SGI protocol, which means…

You're screwed unless you can find the documentation on the protocol and program your own converter.

Re: IBM 5251 Beamspring Keyboard Restoration

That would be really cool having a din port on modern Pc's. I use an external soarers converter that I got from Orihalcon that takes the cable from 5 pin DIN to USB + gives me custom key mapping. Yup, I have the same thing for my F122. The only way I can think of something like that being done is a...

Re: Vintage Cherry Din5 to USB, how?

First: DIN5 to PS/2 is just wiring. Find wiring diagrams online! Use of a multimeter for checking continuity could be a great help. There should be lots of active PS/2 to USB converters on the market. Just about any of them should work just as well with Cherry keyboards .. as long as it is an activ...

Yeah, I've seen it before. My MCK-142Pro has several very weird examples of it, including doubleshot blanks xD . Oh yeh, I remember your video with red plastic in some of the function keys. Impressive Lbibass, I'm jelly of the SGI and Zenith ZKB2. What's a UEK? The UEK is a board of my own design. _R5A6946.jpeg The SGI granite is one of my favorites, but unfortunately, the ESC stem broke somehow. And the Zenith isn't a zkb-2. It's not made by the company that made Chicony and Monterey...

Re: Unicomp SSKs are coming later this year

I don't know.. I had an April 2018 Ultra Classic. It was smooth enough and crisper than other Models M. This is my experience with post-2014 Unicomps. They have a thinner rubber mat on the inside, and somehow the switches become lighter and sharper with that particular assembly. It's almost reminis...

I got a Cherry G80-3000HFD from the chunk box, serial 043893 - is it 1993? It is my first MX-blue board. My DC-2014 uses long white switchplate blue Alps, I think they sound better than grey switchplate ones.

That's probably the result of a lot of other factors. There are about 3 distinct variations of blue alps, with different top housings, leaves, springs, etc.

because it uses shitcony caps, which stretch stems. Same with Montery boards. That's actually fixable. Take some pliers and put some cloth/paper towel around them (so that the metal tips don't scuff up the stem) and close the "gap" with the pliers by pushing them closer together. Don't press too ha...

You could try putting an EMI shield on top of the controller. Some thin foil or something could work. But try and prevent it from shorting out the components!
