Re: Cleaning a Model F XT Safely
I am always wary of painted plastic as in some case the paint comes off rather too easily Never underestimate the usefulness of soaking if you don't want to do too much scrubbing. The Model F cases have a shiny white inner core of plastic with another, off-white top coat that includes/produces the ...

Oh my god. That's horrible.
I never got to know him that well. May he rest in peace.
He was a cool dude, at least from my conversations with him.

quick question: how thick are the caps? Most focuses that I have seen use pretty thin caps with a homing bar, similar to Tai Hao, but not exactly. These caps have a homing nipple like Alps Electric made caps.

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
I want to use this keyboard with my modern pc and it has some weird connector ive never seen...need to know how to get it converted to ps2 so I can use a ps2 to usb converter and use it with my pc Okay. So that's not PS/2. It's probably a weird, proprietary protocol. Your best bet to get it working...

Just thought this post by Jacobolus deserves a repost. Three years ago and basically 100% correct on every point. At the very least it will be an amusing, if cringeworthy at times, presidency. “Amusing” in the same way it’s “amusing” when your baby just crawled out the window and is currently falli...

For what board? And what exactly are you lubing? Do you mean the stabilizers? For a more expensive, but better option, I would say some 205g0. If you want something cheaper, dielectric grease should work well.

Fascinating! I haven't ever seen a 5160XT in the west, only on taobao. And that JX keyboard is quite the lucky find as well. Nice job!

Re: good mouse for CAD work?
I use an MX Ergo, and the button weighting is amazing. I can use that mouse all day. I would stay away from the Elecom Deft for CAD, as the middle click button is about as heavy as a brick. It's absurd and completely unusable.

Re: Dead? Olivetti KBD 2812
You can replace this with the G80 chili pcb. I personally would not recommend doing so, if you want to use switches made by Cherry. The holes for the PCB mount pins are much too big to be used with cherry switches, so they will immediately fall out. If you want to use a Chili pcb, stick with ...

I would say that they are not, judging from the font. Olivetti was known to have used someone else for their dyesubbing at one point.

The first one looks like SMK Vintage linear. I know I have seen the second one somewhere… Are SMK Vintage switches supposed to be even remotely smooth? These aren't in any event, and the build quality (plastic used in the cross) looks lower than on pics of SMK Vintage switches. [...] Took me a whil...

Hi there - new here but very much bitten by the bug... Picked up these two recently, expecting to easily be able to identify them, but neither has any identifying marks I can find. Both seem pretty CP/M-ish. The first has incredible thick ABS keycaps, but other than that feels very cheap & rough. T...

Re: SKCM ALPS - Switchplate repair
Well, you're gonna have to replace the switchplates. Maybe open them up and spray them with contact cleaner? If that doesn't work, you're gonna need to replace the switchplate.
Also: changing the switchplate shouldn't really change the feel of the switch?

Okay, that's not a ps/2 keyboard.
See that SGI copyright? That means its an SGI protocol, which means…
You're screwed unless you can find the documentation on the protocol and program your own converter.

Re: IBM 5251 Beamspring Keyboard Restoration
That would be really cool having a din port on modern Pc's. I use an external soarers converter that I got from Orihalcon that takes the cable from 5 pin DIN to USB + gives me custom key mapping. Yup, I have the same thing for my F122. The only way I can think of something like that being done is a...
