Re: Learning to touch-type properly
Looks like you figured out the part that matters the most: keeping consistent and practice. I learned touch-typing from a teacher almost 25 years ago, who had taught typing for around 20 years at that point. We did have 386 IBM compatibles to learn on, but the cheap dome boards were not much better ...

Re: Multitech KB-101A Restoration and Mods *NEW VIDEO 6.1.2019*
Nice, thanks for the great writeup! I've been using my resurrected KB101A exclusively since about September, with zero issues. I don't see the point of not using my favorite keyboard. I'm not at all worried about "using it up"; I just haven't had that problem with any early Alps switches. And it do...

Re: Multitech KB-101A Restoration and Mods *NEW VIDEO 6.1.2019*
It has been almost five weeks since I put the Multitech back into service. I'm happy to say no issues so far, other than I wish my notebook had these caps/switches :) I hoped this might help someone out there who is scared of this "size" of a project. It really just is 90% pulling key caps and 202 s...

It has taken forever to find time, but I'm finally getting this thing back together. I had planned on doing a bit more video, but just have not been able to set up anything. Went ahead and decided to do the keys. I'm leaving the case alone, as there are come cracks and I don't want the heat of the r...

Still waiting on the weather and timing.. We are having a typical spring, but more rain and cooler temps than normal. The crack in my top case is spreading :( At least I can work on it inside. Will post pictures as I mess with it. In another thread, I recieved a bunch of great ideas on how to treat ...

Commodore 64 Caps
Are the Commodore key caps usable on anything other than the breadbox? I have some spares that came with a bunch of Commodore stuff I recently scored

Which source is closest to primary? Not Apple. I would trust a translated Alps catalog before anything a technical writer at Apple interpreted, from whatever source. The point of translation is also going to account for variances. I doubt the same people worked at Alps, or the American firm that did...

Omron "10 million" Fail Logitech M570
About a year ago, my 6 year old M570 would occasionally not register a left click. A week later, it would sometimes work fine, or make me dump files all over the place/plain not work. Ok, its getting older, so I buy a new one, taking the old guy back to my house. I've used it with my home notebook s...

I'll tell you what lad, I'll look and see what I can scrounge up in my storage which I can get to you, shipped, for your max price. Speaking of which, what is your max? Ha! Don't rush into a purchase, if you're patient I'm sure you'll be able to find something. I personally wouldn't touch that M that you posted, it looks to be about at the point where it's not worth saving. you are right. I rushed all this. Maybe somebody in Europe will get a big ass haul of Fs and se...

Its fairly straight forward. Having not done a keyboard, I was a bit intimidated. Once I figured out exactly how the switch plate/switch/PCB all mesh together, its not such a mystery. From case removal to separation took two hours. Would have taken about fifteen minutes less if 20% of the pins were ...

After some thought, I think I'm going to follow //gainsborough's lead and paint the back plate a color from the label. Its a dark gray, similar to the same dark silver/gray used in many electronics. Didn't have my good camera, so the colors are off a bit http://www.rivervalleycomputer.org/geekhack/m...

I've never pulled the wires out of mine even on extremely tight keys. I have a WASD, Varmilo, and Keycool as well as a bunch of plastic ones. I have bad luck? I don't remember where they came from, but one is super old and the other was off either eBay or Amazon. Now, these key caps and switches ar...

awwwwww yeah!! Restoration time! Have fun, my man! Most definitely! Pulling caps really is my least favorite thing about any of it. I've broke two wire type and one chap plastic puller. If anyone can recommend one that's not going to pull the wires out of the handle, please LMK! Hopefully I won't b...

So it begins. These MX clones are driving me nuts, so I'm going to try and get this project done soon! The part I hate the most. Pulling caps. You can see where I bent the "power" LED. I really don't want to remove those guys, but I might have to. I don't have a board holder to keep from smashing th...

I don't have to switch between ANSI/ISO/JIS, but I do see about a dozen different keyboards daily. You just get use to it. I think the most important thing I learned, while actually taking a typing class 25 years ago, is to learn to use "home key" markers. My Multitech is one of the only keyboards t...
