Before you do anything else, you should verify that you actually have to do anything at all. My understanding is that you can use a simple AT-to-PS/2 adapter or get a PS/2-SDL cable and use it as-is.

Care
Modification for use via USB
Bolt/Screw modding before necessary

Model M NKRO via a Capacitive Conversion?
I was thinking about the easiest ways of converting the model m to operate with NKRO.
It seems there are three general possibilities:
Somehow integrate a TON of diodes throughout the existing membrane matrix
Produce a custom flexible PCB for the model m
