Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)
As said above, using a normal qwerty one-handed is totally possible. Not sure why someone should have to relearn a keyboard layout and torture themselves with that horrribly built piece of shit just because it's marketed as one-handed. Exactly! using a wheelchair must be useless if crawling on the ...

WTS black WKL g80 case, Das keyboard 2 case
Today I have a black winkeyless g81 case. It is in the older style and it being black is quite rare for wkl cherry cases. I can include the DIN cable if you want, but will not split. Timestamp here. https://imgur.com/a/uxS7hds It has many marks on it and a few scratches 32 + shipping for it. Priorit...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?
Ok, I got replies from several manufacturers who say they will be able to do it! Durock seems to be the most likely candidate, but of course the moulds will be expensive to make. I am running an interest check to see how much demand there would be for these switches: https://forms.gle/yTruRbAyMXFCQ...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?
Of course it's possible to recreate them, although it will likely take a fair bit of research, trail and error. However, Matias will never remake SKCM Blue (for the exact same reason Unicomp will not recreate the Model F). I would trust you in any endeavor involving keyboards, you should recreate b...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?
Why did cherry emerge as the dominant force in mechanical keyboards, and not alps, or topre? Those few brands that (also) made office keyboards with them (and not just specialised products such as cash registers) happened to become popular - and that started the whole trend. We got Steelseries 6G a...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?
There are quite a few Alps clones still in production (Hua-Jie, Tai-Hao, and Matias/Gaote, all have their strengths and weaknesses) There is a lack of keycap sets and chassis/PCBs available. Tai-Hao would likely make any Alps keyset in any color imaginable, but there is a MOQ of 100+ sets which peo...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?
This could also go for Topre. What made cherry mx and its clones become the dominant key switch? We now have a rise in custom made keyboard switches (like the romer g and steelseries switches) but razers clones, gateron, greetech, etc and the original cherry are far more popular. Then I'm looking f...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
Sure, but opinions, unpopular or otherwise, need to be based on facts. And... Well, would you argue the following are not IBM facts? […] built-in flaws like broken rivets or pulverized foam […] I would say the flaws are due to the passage of time rather then a built in flaw, had the boards not work...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
No one even bothers with any cherries other than MX for a reason, and the only reason anyone still bothers with them is because of their use in POS stuff (a lot of modern customs can still be described that way as it happens) I haven’t seen people care about alps integrated dome or skcc, alps buckl...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
The trouble with said Cherry boards, though, is those damn MX switches. The caps are nice, and the reliability is superb, but the meh is always in there, too. This is a pointless argument since it goes back and forth on preferences but I do wanna say that I’ve tried pretty much every alps switch (n...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
Another unpopular opinion: DT members love vintage IBM keyboards not in spite, but because of their poor quality. After all, everybody can buy a vintage Cherry keyboard which will work for decades, but it takes experts to bring the average vintage IBM keyboard back to functioning correctly, as show...

Mouse buttons should be quiet
The only reason I use a zowie with clicky buttons is that most silent click mice are garbage on the sensor department . I want to replace the buttons if I ever get an opportunity

M/D/Y is the best date format, and I say that as someone who usually hates the "American" way of doing things (farhenheit, imperial) "Unpopular" and "flat out wrong" sometimes do coincide, indeed. well now that i consider it, in terms of priority of how often things are changed, id say that dd/mm/y...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
I enjoy new games way more than old games , I tried to play so many old (popular) Nintendo games and I gave up each time because the new ones are just made better. Pretty much the only truely old game I like is doom , most other things don't feel worth playing anymore in modern times.

Re: Four interesting Alps switches
How is the key feel? I can't imagine that sliding contacts would be any good. They feel okay . But the travel is so short on these that most of the scratchiness doesn't have a chance to come out. So you're the one who beat me in getting those pop. Glad to see they went to someone who is documenting...
