Re: Is there any kind of Macintosh Plus-like modern keycaps?

That looks like it might be SKCC Grey, not mitsumi. Its hard to tell, since the wiki doesn't have pictures, but the slider is a dead ringer for SKCC

Re: Alps Appreciation

@gains: The symbol is the logo for JEOL . I use it as a windows key and it has an external coil spring to prevent accidentally pressing it when I miss backspace. @Zed: I haven't really done too much with bad ALPS switches in general, the SKCM/SKCL switches I've had are generally in decent enough sha...

I still want to get a Nabu and Morrows SKCC board so maybe in the future I can retake this with even more boards.

Re: Let's make the worst layout ever!

I think "doesn't aggravate RSI with frequent use" is a decent metric for what is ergonomic. By that metric I think the default layout is ergonomic enough for most users. That's not an especially useful definition though and its because the term ergonomic is rather broad. All keyboards, to varying ex...

[Help] Handwire behaving strange

I've got a very strange issue with a board I'm trying to handwire. I have swapped out controllers, changed to different firmware, and completely rewired the board and no matter the configuration the issue is the same. all the diodes are in the same direction, none of them are dead, all the switches ...

13.5u is where its at tbh.
I don't know why apple even bothers with 14.5u ISO boards. They toss out tradition in the name of "innovation" all the time so not having an iso-enter in a UK layout board sounds like something apple would do but here we are.

Re: Regarding the Cherry G80-2511 and the Kaihl Box switches

Restore it and document the hell out of it before you do anything to it. If its something special you might be able to flip it for a profit and reinvest in a more common board to cut your teeth on.

Re: Xerox DocuTKL: An Alps TKL

For rerouting the USB I tend to use the small cable that they come with and plug that into a breakout board. I can then run wires from that to another breakout board. I do it this way, along with a socket for the controller, so that the controller can be removed in the event that I need it for a dif...

Re: Cherry MX Keys to Alps SKCC

I am not aware of any adapters. Due to the design of SKCC switches I would thing an adapter would be too tall to be usable.
What would be better would be a replacement slider with MX mount but these don't exist yet either. You would have to design a solution yourself basically.

ALPSaver [SM-FKB401] [SKCC Cream]

I have finally managed to snag an ALPSaver of my very own! https://i.imgur.com/3bJ0lWB.jpg This one was hooked up to an electron microscope which is honestly super cool. ( Here's one in with the scope ) It has a pretty unique layout that I personally love to pieces. and this one in particular has so...

Re: BOX switches

A skcm style leaf in an MX compatible switch would be a dream. I like MX tactility well enough, but the requirement for keeping the weight/tactility ratio in a particular range prevents the light weight high tactility that I want from a switch. I would think that a click bar could be made to hook un...

What's the alternative to iterative design then? Making revisions is how everything works. Computers, cars, every piece of technology will be worked on and updated. I don't get how getting better is a bad thing at all?

The PCE bottom row is great and the caps are nice, leave that alone.
That said they would be very nice with some click bar or SMK clicky switches.

Re: Classic SP DCS keycaps [Wyse] are underrated

I really like these caps as well, I don't have a moogle kit but I thing the PCE bottom row is better than the standard bottom row on modern layouts anyway so I'm not to bothered by it. I really don't like the spacebar profile for DCS at all though. It feels like the front edge is pointed right at my...

If you didn't suggest tipro I was about to! If you need a bunch of macros just get a big macropad. Repurposing a regular keyboard is something in would do if I happened to have the usb-usb converter on hand sure, but its not something I'd recommend. (If only tipro had other switch options though)

The regular layout is ergonomic for most, and for a lot of people it would seem that all it takes to improve the ergonomics is to flip the space bar.

Re: IBM Model F Terminal keyboard

If the metal plate inside is thicker that would add to the weight. I personally would try to fix it. Ms tend to clean well and it would be a good opportunity to learn since you wouldn't be at risk of harming a pristine board. The caps are super cool on your board and I would love to see it cleaned up.

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

I think beam springs were made before the additive that makes ABS yellow was required, so they don't yellow with age. I've never heard of engraved caps for beam springs, but if they are newer than the doubleshot caps then they might use new ABS with the additives that cause discolouration

Its always weird that a bid that is smaller than an offer removes the best offer option especially since a seller gets a few days to accept/decline an offer and a bid in that time will still override it. How much are Brown Alps going for? I'm specifically looking for brown alps with a dimpled contact leaf and I don't know if that would make a difference.
