Unknown ALPS switch?

I pulled this out of a Cannon AP350X and I do not see them on the wiki. I can say, without any hyperbole, that these are my new favorite switch. https://i.imgur.com/AF5L832.jpg First off, here is what I know or suspect about the switch: 1) These are in fact alps switches. They have an alps logo on t...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

I've got one of those. It's a George Risk 753 keyboard with Futaba linear switches. Nice, the listing got too rich for my blood on account of the other ham stuff in the listing, and I wasn't willing to shell out for a mystery board. I'll have to add that board to my list though, its probably the be...

The Wiki isn't the best way to document stuff, at least for Cherry, here is a better way : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... p=drivesdk
It sounds like the wiki needs to be brought up to snuff then, not abandoned in favor of a google doc

I would not do this, though they have a tactility to them inherent to the sensing design, I do not think they were originally created with the intent of said tactility.
I think the actual operation is more important than anything else. It's just not accurate to classify them as linears.

Re: Unpopular opinions thread

I haven’t seen people care about alps integrated dome or skcc, alps buckling springs so I don’t understand this argument In an IBM vs Cherry argument, there's only one cherry switch type anyone cares about whereas every IBM switch is good enough to have a following. It we're talking alps though, I ...

Re: Unpopular opinions thread

No one even bothers with any cherries other than MX for a reason, and the only reason anyone still bothers with them is because of their use in POS stuff (a lot of modern customs can still be described that way as it happens)

Oh man, congratulations! I've not seen one of these as a separate module before (I suspected that they were made but I didn't find much info on it.) I have one of the modules that comes out of a model that had an integrated keyboard, and I have a board in a similar case but has a different layout. C...

Re: Alps Appreciation

Don't know if this helps, but looking at the book they say, "All other functions accessed by this key are performed normally." So you don't have to press twice if you're using Alt-Print Screen or Shift-Print Screen. I was planning to remap it to F13 and have Ctrl+F13 be a macro (I like macros on F1...

Re: Alps Appreciation

Well, that is a shame. I can always map the macros I was wanting to put on print screen/scroll lock/pause onto insert/home/page up and it will work just fine. Still, its weird that there isn't a dip switch to control that behavior (or a jumper or something)

What a coincidence but I also got a nib omnikey recently!

The only thing I'm not liking about it is the print screen key must be tapped twice. I've looked through the manual but I don't see any way to disable that, which is a shame as I would like to remap that key.

Re: Laser Keyboard

I have seen other PCBs with a similar kind of PCB jumper to what you see in yellow, although it is not common. I think it might have been cheaper than a double sided PCB, but more expensive than through hole jumpers. The only reason to do it this way is to keep the PCB flat since jumpers would have ...

I put mine in a plastic bag and filled the bag with peroxide. I then put the bad in a pot of water and put it on the stove on low heat, checking on it often. I have a heated ultrasonic cleaner that I have also used instead of a stove top. It ended up looking pretty good.

I like how colemack does the backspace, by putting it where caps lock would normally be. Home row backspace and home row enter. It works well on boards with a BAE and 1u backspace. Anything is better than a 1u backspace.

I think you could safely go back to WYSE chassis, plenty of them get harvested so you wouldn't even need to desolder yourself. Folks throw them out too often IMO.

[WTS] Vintage Black [Price Drop 8/22]

I have 284 vintage black switches that I am interested in parting with. Unlike seemingly everyone else I like the WYSE chassis that these were harvested from more than I like these switches. I'm looking for 0.50USD/each if you buy all that I have, 0.55USD/each otherwise. Shipping to US only. https:/...

I think modern foam is likely more durable and less likely to rot but they would still feel like foam

What people are really sleeping on is reed switches, lots of durability out of a contact based switch

The tall one isn't alps integrated dome, the bottom has 4 pins, which is something you get on hall effect and magnetic valve switches.

I map it to fn+space (with caps lock remapped to fn) and I only use to to lock my workstation at work. Otherwise I never touch it.
