If you want art you need to pay an artist. Asking for free art is kinda shitty.

Re: 1990 Chicago Tribune article on keyboards interviewing Key Tronic, Northgate and IBM managers

But the layout was simply a result of trying to ''make the best use of the available space,'' Duffy said. this basically confirms my suspicion that the vertical enter on the XT is really only like that so that it can pull double duty as the numpad enter, a lot of other keys appear to have been posi...

Re: Alps Appreciation

you have to linear mod them, and then you are free to LED mod them. it might be possible to stick an SMD LED to the top of a switch housing and run wires down the side, but that would really depend on the clearance allowed by your cap

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYSWITCH thread

Looks inductive somehow, never seen a switch like that before though Oo . In the switch's resting state the diameter of the spring is too small to touch the contacts on the PCB. When you press the switch it forces the spring to widen, making the diameter large enough to bridge the contacts, the for...

Re: [IC] IBM Doubleshot Key Cap Set Group Buy?

If it is buckling spring then the different rows thing is sorta handled by the curved plate. Adding a profile on top of that would mean it looses a lot of flexibility in terms of layout for something that really isn't necessary IMO

Re: [IC] IBM Doubleshot Key Cap Set Group Buy?

...but those are only available for MX (I asked and they won't do any buckling spring molds)... Just to clarify since it isn't spelled out, are you looking into doing a set of caps inspired by IBM, or a set of caps for buckling spring boards? A set of spherical caps for buckling spring would be fan...

I imagine you could adhere some foil to the flipper to make it capacitive without having to mess with custom plastic flavors

I would think that something like that, but with plastic studs for the pivot wouldn't bee too difficult to do, and would hopefully smoother than an all metal part.

I think the best way to get decent prices is to become friends with other people in the hobby and do trades and the like and to watch for good deals. The wheelwriter keyboard i took apart didn't have a rubber sheet but o-rings instead . This made it louder/more clicky
I had this happen with an action writer. removing the mat when bold modding has a similar effect and I greatly prefer how it makes the M feel

when I have done that I have left mine coiled, and just tightened existing coils. This has always produced much better results for me than trying to coil a straight cable.

Re: I visited Unicomp a couple days ago, typed on their new Mini M, and asked them some community questions. *long*

the only reason it takes more force to press the membrane is because of the rubber mat that is above the membrane, removing that removes a lot of the resistance that the flipper has to overcome to push through to press the membranes together. I haven't done any tests with transplanting F springs int...

800 is less that I spent on my near immaculate beamspring, that's an awful lot to pay for something that is only barely different from white ALPS. regardless of how rich the buyer was they certainly are an idiot.

I've seen a few that have that on the numpad enter key
I assume they are in an environment where there additional abrasives present that cause additional wear to the keys

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

That is a good point, Fs are older so if there is wear involved then you would expect them to be smooth on both the barrels and the caps, but it appears to be just the caps that are smooth. Someone who owns more Ms and Fs and also knows a bit about the plastics involved should really look into it. E...

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

I've heard theories that F barrels are rough so the stems are smooth to compensate, and that M barrels are smooth so that the caps don't have to be. SO if you use M caps on F barrels you get the worst of both worlds. I haven't seen anyone take an in-depth look at this so IDK if it is accurate, but t...
