Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!

have we compared this new lubricant to other available lubricants? The smoothness you are describing might not be unique to this lubricant. We should have sufficient statistical rigor before starting a hype train

Re: IBM Model M 1986

Personally I am a huge fan of the AT&T model Ms, if you can find one in good shape I highly recommend getting one. They are a bit hard to find so getting one that needs repair is iffy as replacement parts will be harder (specifically their springs are different and the springs are what makes them fe...

Re: Keyboards banned from work

I suspect with how loud some of my coworkers manage to type on HP dome boards (some of that is heavy typing force, some of that is fingernail clack) I suspect an F with floss/foam plugs in the springs to reduce ping would fit right in.

the fact that they can program the keyboard to the customer's specification is a selling point, it wouldn't make sense to make something that your customer can reprogram themselves

From this listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/203141236081 I asked the seller for a pic of the switch and they sent me this: https://i.imgur.com/umfcdPT.jpg From the shape of the caps I was hoping these might be ALPS caps at least. No idea what this is though. Here's a mirror for the listing pics for ...

Silver Reed EZ43 Typewriter [proto-topre]

Just got a hold of a Silver Reed EZ43 Typewriter with a variety of proto-topre that I have not seen before. This pic is from the listing because shipping absolutely destroyed the typewriter, box was crunched a little and it was not packaged well so some significant damage was done to the case and th...

unicomp is working on a tkl, but as I understand it they are understaffed due to covid, and so everyone who would be working on developing the tkl is currently working in assembly so that they can still fill orders.

That looks like a KPT switch or a KPT clone of some sort. The A>X switch is used to change the protocol between AT and XT. If you have a converter to use it on a modern computer you should leave it set to AT.
The BAE+ISO left shift is an interesting combination that you don't see a lot of.

terminal boards also seem to go for cheaper as sellers can't easily test them and they don't have locklights so some folks find them less desirable. 26 is a great price, I haven't been able to get an M at that price in forever

if you sell for below market prices, regardless of what you got it for, the person buying will just flip it for market. Better to sell at market unless you trust the buyer a lot.

I have a few nos ones and they aren't lubed, I'm pretty sure harvested ones are. The source for the nos ones probably got some really late production switches where they had decided to forgo lubing. Without lube they are scratchy so unless you are harvesting or plan to June them yourself they aren't...

Re: What Cherry MX emulates Alps Amber?

Due to differences in mechanism, none of the MX switches are really comparable. Blues are clicky, which is the closest you'll get with purely MX switches but it is not very close in feel or sound tbh. If you are willing to go with aftermarket switches then I would suggest one of the box click bar sw...
