Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards
Thing is, I've always found the term 'Silent' a little bit subjective when it comes to keyboards - I've been using MX Blacks and MX Browns for years and they've never been the loudest at all, even if I am a pretty hard typist. It's strange. Yeah I think that's probably the same for most people. Mos...

Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards
Personally I never found Topre *that* quiet, even their silenced models. It's not loud but it's not really worth of the term "silent" IMO. Depending on how much you really value silence, I would look into a MX Silent Red or, perhaps more trendy if you want tactile, a Gazzew U4 Silent switch and stic...

That looks exactly like my Niz board's internals to me, wouldn't be surprised if it feels the same as a Niz.

Can't say I've had the issue of Q dying, but if I wake up from suspend, then the keyboard needs to be replugged as the entire thing is asleep.
EDIT: Suppose I should mention my mobo and OS
X570 Aorus Elite
Arch Linux and Windows (both exhibit same issue)

Re: New F77 or a Unicomp?
Hm, apparently YMMV? On my Brand New Model F77, the stabilized keys are extremely smooth. Among the best I've tried. Yes, I haven't seen many complaints about the stabilizers either. I think I just have a crummy unit. But man, they bind terribly. It's been boxed up for awhile because there's nothin...

Re: New F77 or a Unicomp?
Strongly disagree with Dikkus. I pulled the mat out my Model M 122 key when restoring it, and while it did make a difference—you could feel the hammers plinking, and hear them too—it was nothing like a Model F whatsoever. If Model F was only as good as that, I'd be a hardcore beamspring supremacist...

Re: New F77 or a Unicomp?
I own a few vintage Model Ms, a few newer Unicomp models, and one of the recent F reproductions. New Unicomp models actually feel closer to an F than the old Model Ms do, partly due to the thinner latex mat I think. This results in a sharper feeling than old Ms which have a thicker rubber mat in it....

Re: Unicomp Mini M / New Model M Tenkeyless
The little-known Model M. Shame they're made in Mexico. I believe that Chyros concluded that the M13's made in the Mexican plant were up to snuff with the other Model M's at the time insofar as manufacturing quality was concerned. Though the keycaps are still pad printed, so unfortunately even thou...

Re: Topre 45g (FC660C) vs cherry mx blues, in terms of fatigue
^ See what I said about opinions and the internet! ... I know what you mean, but I feel like I have to stress that it wasn't an opinion, but a matter of fact. Whether or not it was dodgy QC isn't known, but I could very clearly hear the springs click. Not all of the keys had this problem, so I open...

Re: Topre 45g (FC660C) vs cherry mx blues, in terms of fatigue
interestingly, in regards to smoothness, both of the Topre boards i used for awhile were quite scratchy. both Leopolds, too.
also the springs clicked. a lot. which made it particularly distracting on the silenced 660c i tried. it was a real nasty sound, too; not a pleasant soft click or anything.

Re: Unicomp Ultra Classic dropping rivets too quickly...
In many cases I would say that the newer generations tend to be smoother than the old generations that I've tried. Actually, my 2019 Unicomp is the smoothest of my Model M's by quite a large margin. I had a big debate with some folks over on geekhack about this. My silver badge industrial M from 19...

If you don't mind me asking, how bad is it? It's always hard to tell from pictures alone. I noticed from your old thread that it looks considerably more grey in that picture.

Re: Unicomp Ultra Classic dropping rivets too quickly...
People always make a big deal about the back plate getting thinner over time, but other than weight and perhaps sound, I don't see the big deal. Having used every M generation now, I don't really feel a huge difference in key feel at all, from the earliest generation, to the newest. In many cases I ...

Yes, I'm going to assume 6KRO. But even then that is quite an improvement. I had thought they were only going to optimize the cluster around WASD.Findecanor wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 16:28Whenever you see "10KRO" or "14KRO", expect 6KRO and a non-standard way of counting.

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?
The new one piece keycaps from Unicomp are quite smooth on model Fs, at least in my opinion. The older two part unicomp keycaps are DEFINITELY scratchy on model Fs but not really noticeable on Model Ms. Interesting. I don't have any one parts to test, but I believe you. It's curious, though. Has an...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
My Unicomp keys on my Model F are incredibly scratchy as well, though they feel perfectly fine on a regular M. The same can be said for an older 1992 set. That being said, keys from my 1986 Model M feel completely normal on a Model F, lacking the intense scratchiness of the aforementioned two. They ...

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?
I know this reply is really late, but my Unicomp keycaps are too short, nothing wrong with the printing at all, they are just noticeably shorter than genuine IBM caps, they also rock from side to side constantly and they bottom out right after the tactile bump, which basically ruins the whole point...

Re: Do I need to screw mod my Model M?
It's a very simple process, even someone as clumsy as me was able to do one with the encouragement of the users here. I think the best part of doing a bolt mod -- aside from making the board more serviceable -- is the opportunity to replace the thick rubber mat with a thin latex mat from Unicomp, a...

How common are bleached dyesubs?
Having seen more than a few very old IBM keyboards now, I just came across a bleached "A" key on my recently acquired '86 Model M. It got me looking around on the web for other people with bleached dyesubs, merely out of curiosity. I've seen some people get bleached dyesubs within a few months, othe...

Hi everyone, anybody faced this issue? Realised it after 2 months of unboxing it. It's mostly out of sight, though, so...

Modding a Topre board -- how tight should the screws be upon reassembly?
Hello friends, I was recently modding a Topre board to stick some BKE domes in it. Specifically it's the FC660C model, which has a metal plate. I have to wonder, though, how tight should the screws be upon reassembly? It seems that the tightness makes a decent impact on switch feel and sound; if I t...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
I've been testing the new firmware for a few days now and it seems to work perfectly. As an aside, does anyone else happen to have rod stabilizer frustrations? Both my Unicomp and my IBM SSK have pretty flawless stabilizers - no binding at all and they're quite smooth - but my F62's stabs feel prett...
