Re: Zed's IBM 3101 Beamspring Triple Restoration Thread

Heyo, thanks for the help SneakyRobb. I've resoldered a few components and replaced some others, but still no response from the driver. (It is getting 5v properly from the vcc, according to my multimeter, and the connections seem to be right as well). This is a problem for another day, though. Today...

Re: Zed's IBM 3101 Beamspring Triple Restoration Thread

Heyo, I have run into problems trying to get the solenoid working. It is unresponsive. I suspect it is to do with my soldering/component placement. Can I please get some high quality images of an assembled Xwhatsit solenoid driver board so I can see component orientation properly?

Re: [GB] T1 Tactile Switches

Hey all, figured I'd give y'all that impression I told you I would. So, these things are actually quite nice, at least, loose. Everything I wished MX clear was. A significant (for notch tactility) bump, which is fairly smooth and rounded, right at the top of the keytravel. With the 67g weighting, it...

Re: Zed's IBM 3101 Beamspring Triple Restoration Thread

Updates: I have more parts! Everything I need to build/restore these (besides a couple of small components I need to repurchase after losing) have come in! 11 Beamspring modules, 2 thicc cables, and 3 solenoid driver PCBs. As you can see, I hand soldered one solenoid driver, still need to test. Will...

I'd also be willing to donate a board to a winner.

I'm also willing to help promote to outside communities, like CountNoctua suggested, but I am not certain how to gather them all or how we want to present it. Perhaps I could make a submission thread and compile them all on the top post?

Re: Unpopular opinions thread

I would not do this, though they have a tactility to them inherent to the sensing design, I do not think they were originally created with the intent of said tactility. They noticed it and maintained it for future designs, though, and definitely realized they could use it for tactility with SKCM bro...

Well, when I'm done restoring them, ideally I would like to sell them to members of the community. However, I may also sell one on fleabay to get the most out of it, and one to someone here for a more reasonable price. I have car repairs and licensing to pay for, you see. As for anyone interested in...

Re: Alternative blue alps switch?

Nothing. Early SKCM whites in good condition are very similar if not functionally identical in feeling to later blue alps.

You can also go for SKCM Ambers, but I find those to be more niche in feeling.

Do you have a photo? I thought those were PBT, no?
Every key on the AEKs are PBT except for the spacebar. The spacebar is made of the same superyellowing abs you find on the case, or similar. ABS is easier to make spacebars and other large keys out of, PBT is hard to get right.

Hi, I've got some beam spring Xwhatsits that didn't work from the factory, but can't tell you what parts on them don't work. If you have a way to do chase that down, probably would be much easier than actually building from scratch. Let me know if interested. Thanks!

I have also experienced this issue and have found it rather frustrating when I am looking for a model of keyboard or switch quickly.
I need to go to the Main DT site and then the wiki, and then find the page I'm looking for there.
