Hi, Not entirely sure. But that connector is interesting and might lead us to the answer with some looking! It is a CANNON DD 115339-4 50 pin connector mostly (?) used with audio equipment. https://www.stepp-upsteppersllc.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9025 DD50 is actually the "F...

Re: IBM Model F 122 "restored" and bolt-modded
Why does one bolt-mod an F? What does it do? I created a guide for refurbishing and ANSI-modding a 122-key terminal F. https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11102&p=241582&hilit=harry+ansi#p241582 In the guide are shown half a dozen "bolts" (machine screws and nuts) but as I became more exper...

Re: IBM Model F 122 "restored" and bolt-modded
Why does one bolt-mod an F? Bolt-mod on an M is to replace failed heat staking, F has no heat stakes and operates on a different principle. What does it do?

Looks just like the place I work for, before we lost two consecutive storage facilities and had to thin out our inventory! I even recognize a lot of the equipment (Toshiba notebooks, the Panasonic printer, and many crappy old computers of that certain vintage where they're too old to be useful but t...

Re: Lament for the pingmaster.
I've got the F keys over on the rightmost block with the numpad in pretty much its original location and layout. What screwed me up when I was using it as the "main" keyboard was the single-unit backspace key. But what cemented it as a "non-primary" keyboard for me is the exceptional lightness of th...

Re: IBM 178-key 3670 communications system keyboard
Nifty! Keyboard looks like it'd be one hell of an artifact to possess, but godawful to actually use, as its layout is more at home on a CNC mill or lathe than on a console for general use.

That's really cool, the terminal has quite the resemblance to the VT05, and the later appellation "DECScope" lead me to wonder, do they have any relation besides the resemblance?

Re: I think the model f 122 may just be my favorite keyboard overall.
I much prefer the IBM Model F AT as it is much more compact and can easily be modified to a modern layout all that needs to be done is some custom key remapping and new keycaps or some relegendable keycaps. I know some really like the a dedicated nav cluster but for me using the num pad is no issue...

Re: I think the model f 122 may just be my favorite keyboard overall.
Been using one all week, and dude I see why these are generally the most expensive of the more common models. The same awesome model f key feel and sound, a nearly modern layout(i suspect imb's engineers took a que from this when the M was made), and has dedicated nav and num cluster. Not to mentio...

Re: Just came to mind now, a question about a converted Beamspring
Sounds like you could have bought the wrong controller. Shitfire. I bought it from Orihalcon and I hate to trouble him about it at such an advanced date, already once having had to return a Soarer's Converter. I myself sell on eBay from time to time and detest having to accept returns and so deeply...

Just came to mind now, a question about a converted Beamspring
So about a year or so ago I bought an Xwhatsit controller for my Displaywriter Beamspring keyboard. Installing it was piss-easy (the procedure listed in the manual as the contingency procedure, installing the keyboard module upside-down, should really be the primary procedure! As the legendary code ...

Re: Model M appreciation
I used a Model M as a "daily driver" for years, sometimes a regular M, then an M5-2, then an M122, then an F-XT, and now an F-122. I remember my initial quest, looking through bins of keyboards at my place of work at the time before finally finding an F-AT that made the sound exactly as I remembered...

Re: Weirdly Badged F 122
Maybe my question is stupid, but what's the black square label on the up-right corner of the first pic? I asked the same. It's a cable lock to prevent the keyboard of getting stealed. I may put one on my 122 only to not let myself put the cellphone right there and fucking destroy it against the flo...

Re: Picked up an FK-5001 and it has a strange issue
Seems like I won't have to bother Engicoder, I connected it up to my machine's PS/2 port, re-booted and this time it works just fine as well in AT mode, lock lights and all. So for whatever reason it disagrees with the PS/2 to USB adapters I have tried, and I tried two of them (I have more but not t...

This is something you need to ask Engicoder, if anyone knows it's him. Thanks for this, I'll shoot him a message if I can't work this out. Anywho, I switched it to XT mode and plugged it in to my 5155 Portable Personal Computer and, Lo and Behold, it works fine, Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, KB...

Re: Picked up an FK-5001 and it has a strange issue
It seems to me all switches are fine, the keyboard reacted when you pressed the key. Are you using a Soarers PS/2 USB adapter ? No, a conventional one. My next course of action will be to hook it directly to a machine which requires no adapters and see what that does, and also to test in XT protoco...

Picked up an FK-5001 and it has a strange issue
So I saw on eBay a Focus FK-5001 going for $60+S&H, I shot the guy an offer of $40 and he bit, so, well, now I've got an FK-5001. I was lucky in one respect, it had never had the little plastic insulator taken out from the battery compartment so when I opened it in hesitation to see if I had to addr...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds
I thought about bidding, but I've already owned one of those maxiswitch kind of boards before (an old Cybernetix). They're pretty neat and clean up well, but I wouldn't say it's worth more than $100 shipped unconverted. Yeah that's where I bowed out too. I just wanted to know what was up with that ...

People like these things that much? I've been consistently underwhelmed by Cherry boards, they are frighteningly lightly built and the switches aren't much to write home about. Regarding the Cherry G80-2511 and the Kaihl Box switches
Recently I purchased a Cherry G80-2511 keyboard on eBay, sight unseen besides a couple shitty pictures (seller was overseas and no matter how I phrased it I could not inspire in him understanding of the notion of removing a keycap that I might see what type of switch it had). Of course it turned out...

Re: Model F XT weird issues
Dropping any Model F from a height causes the space bar to register. This is physics not a problem with the keyboard; the space bar is so fucking huge it has that much momentum that it overcomes even the atomic return spring on a Model F. It was the ground after all. Just like in an automobile bad g...

Re: Model F XT weird issues
One thing to ensure with these is that there is continuity of grounding from the keyboard all the way to the main signal ground at the PC. If this is not maintained (as by USB hub, extension cable, etc.) it will do all kind of weird stuff. For testing, plug the converter right into a USB port on the...
