Another viable ALPS keycap choice?
As Alps aficionados know, Cherry MX crowd has some enviable customization options. While quite a bit of it is just garish gimmickry, there is no denying the countless array of keycap choices available in all colors, materials, and profiles to fit every budget. Replacing a stock set of Alps keycaps r...

Intriguing. I've never tried the Omrons, but everything I've heard about them are in agreement with you. It's considered to be one of the most tactile switches ever made, with a few claiming it goes over the top. It's kind of hard for me to imagine too much tactility, since tactile switches are my f...

Please respect Chryros and his findings. He made an excellent video where he really gave it his best for what anyone with a basic intelligence can easily figure out doesn't work. He is a chemist who knows organic chemistry much better than the folks criticizing him. I see no reason for him to be bia...

Re: Macintosh KTK-1086 VER 1.2 Microcontroller Replacement
I wouldn't attempt trying to implement a custom ADB controller for the keyboard. It's a nightmare to implement and even Apple got it wrong at least twice. It's the reason why some keyboards work well and others are a bit more finicky. The PCB matrix is already labeled for you and it will be a matter...

Re: Blue Alps?
Remember, there were literally millions of keyboards with Blue Alps manufactured. While a good number of them are buried in landfills, there are still a ton of them hidden away in attics and garages. Surprisingly, they are among the more common SKCMs you can find, certainly not as rare as vintage Pi...

Re: Another new project (IBM PCJr)
The PCjr is my first computer and I have nothing but fond memories of it. The original chicklet keyboard was truly an abomination, making it a laughing stock of computers even to this day. The later revised rubber dome keyboard discussed here wasn't too bad. It was certainly better than many of its ...

Your youthful naïveté and bravado is invigorating and inspiring, but you're painfully unaware of the magnificent scope of such an endeavor. Recreating these beloved switches has been a recurring topic of numerous threads here on DT and elsewhere. Every serious attempt has been a lone winding road li...

Well, I on the other hand will just verify that Nyogel 760G does nothing for Blue ALPS (and all SKCM that are prelubed). In fact it does the exact opposite, it exacerbates the friction making them even more scratchy. Back to the drawing board. Yikes... well then. RIP to those that tried 😬 It's a bi...

It would be cool to have a bunch of these and mount them on a oversized mounting plate to make a large flat keyboard or keypad. It can be used to play arcade games with your feet. Care should be taken to not make the springs too stiff or it can become a trampoline.

Let me preface this by stating that I am not a tribologist, nor have I ever lubed switches. Re: SMK 2nd Gen MX Mount Clickies
I can vouch for 2nd Gen MX Blues. They are very smooth with a sharp affirmative click, decent tactility and a light weight. It is one of my favorite switches to type on; it greatly increases my typing speed and accuracy. While I haven't tried ALPS blues, many claim it comes very close and others add...

I have a ton of Monterrey blues (SMK 2nd GEN blue) switches I plan to salvage from some broken PCBs. Are they transplantable onto any or all of these SKM keyboards? I like the form factor and it would make a great ANSI layout keyboard. The main concern would be the pin layout of the switch. The keyc...

I just have to share this hilarious quote after reading a review of the Cherry G80-3000 on Verge. Re: Matias TactilePro v5?
Matias is one of the few keyboard manufacturers that even remotely gets it. They still, however, make their share of lousy, flimsy mush slop. It might make them money but it doesn't win them any loyalty or prestige from the mech community. They are the equivalent of Unicomp among ALPS aficionados, m...

I occasionally see Packard Bell typewriters for sale at my local thrift store. They are fairly modern looking, but can't date when they were made.
