Re: Questioning the lubing of switches

Thanks for your clarification and looking forward to the video(s).

On a sidenote: What do you guys recommend I should lube my MX Silent Blacks with to make them super silent ? I have obtained Superlube, GPL 105, Tribosys 3203 and Tribosys 3204. They are all non grease lubricants I take it...

Re: Questioning the lubing of switches

Thanks for your input. I am also talking about the standard lubing routine for Cherry MX Style Switches in the community. (Not hating, just curious and wanting to learn).

Questioning the lubing of switches

Hi, I am fairly new to this game so it would be nice if you guys could answer a question. This guy from Cherry is stating that you should not lube anything but those two little notches in your switches because it will decrease the longievity. He says that Cherry style copies of switches often feel s...

Re: Kailh Switch Series, which one is your favorite?

You guys are right and maybe what I wrote was not 100% accurate. I just wanted to shed a light on Cherry's current strategy and the reason why I believe (based on the guy in the interview) we will not see any box switches with clickbars (using this as a metaphor) from Cherry any time soon (even thou...

Re: Kailh Switch Series, which one is your favorite?

This guy from Cherry is stating that their Development Department is full of prototypes and innovations. I guess Cherry is in a different league than Kailh. They will just bring an innovation to the market if they will sell millions of units like the MX Silent Switches (2015), MX Silver Speed Switc...

Re: BOX switches

I wish people would just stop fucking about with the notches to generate tactility. As I noted in my review of the BOX Royals, they feel good, it's just crazy that they had to resort to a bump THIS big in order to make a notch switch actually feel tactile. And now, as a side effect, they can't keep...

Re: BOX switches

I got a reply and you might not like the answer... Hi there, This is actually something that happens to BOX Brown, BOX Burnt Orange, and BOX Royals over time. I have talked to Kaihua about this before, and there is no plans to make any changes. Kaihua did confirm that this happens over time with the...

Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

Do you think that a heavy dry lubricant could last? Or maybe if the plastic was made of that Teflon infused stuff that Dupont makes? I think we should ask this question to Mike from Novelkeys. As I have read on their website, Novelkeys now owns the tooling for the BOX Switches. Maybe to make sure t...

Re: Restoring old Gaming Keyboards

Nice, I did this with a Razer 10KL a while back https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=20181 Yes, very nice - I like your result! I must say, I love the switches. And like you, I have no issues with the actuation being too early. What switches should I use on the LK20? I tried Speed Copper an...

Restoring old Gaming Keyboards

Dear all, recently I have started a budget project. Instead of buying expensive Kits I decided to buy old gaming keyboards from eBay Classified and pimp them. I started off my project with an Ozone Strikebattle. Cherry MX Browns were desoldered and shiny thin ABS keycaps were removed. I soldered in ...

Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

I ordered a Kailh Box Switch tester off of the KBDFans Website which arrived on Friday. I can assure you that the Box Switches (one of every type there is except HAKO) in the tester were all fine. I put some Cherry MX Browns next to them and tested them with the provided clear keycaps that come wit...

Re: Keyboard repairers - Germany or UK

Which Keyboard is this?
You could try to disassemble the Case and connect the PCB via USB to a Computer. Then short the contacts with a pair of tweezers. If the keypress registers, all you have to do is to replace the switch.

Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

In the US, use Novelkeys. In Europe, use Candykeys. Both are selling retooled only for sure. Even KBDFans seems to be selling retooled only nowadays. Stay clear of ebay box switches unless you find the seller to be trustworthy. Thank you, I was never going to STOP buying any Box switches anyway ;) ...

Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

Just make sure you aren't buying pre-retool ones. Easier said than done. The retailers are NOT ever going to tell you that their stock is the cursed key-cap damaging ones. Also now there are a lot more BOX Whites in Keyboards being offloaded onto Ebay these days. What are the odds every single one ...

Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

Yes, I think you are right. People need to look at this comparison. At the middle of the page there is a table with measurements. https://www.keychatter.com/2018/08/16/unpacking-the-kailh-box-switch-debacle/ It shows that the new stems of Kailh Box Switches are thinner than Cherry MX on average. Re: BOX switches STILL cracking keycaps!

On geekhack there is ample consensus that retooled box switches still crack gmk or OG keycaps. "all keycaps right away audibly crack on first insertion. I notified KBDfans about the problem, they said they will take it to Kailh.. (again..)." https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=96323.400 Jesus Chri...

Fair enough. The question though is - even if I get my hand on some New Stem Box Jades, will they crack my Double Shot ABS GMK Caps or not? The insecurity around this issue is huge. No, they shouldn't. Ok, I want to believe you. Still the risk is pretty darn high. Do we have any actual examples whe...

Re: Gaming Keyboard - Looking for Advice

One Tip from my side. Make sure, you get PBT Keycaps, which are not lasered or printed but either dye subbed or double shot. Most gaming keyboards have lasered ABS keycaps which start looking greasy right after unboxing the keyboard and touching it for the first time. Moreover, you should try some k...

).

Gruß
Jani
