Repair Services for vintage Alps boards

Hey folks. Recently I obtained an ANSI Blue Alps board made for Packard Bell. The switchs seem in good shape but about 8 of the keys don't work, including both the enter key and numpad enter. I kludtzed around and managed to get numpad enter working, but the experience convinced me that my soldering...

Re: Alps Appreciation

https://imgur.com/a/Iujheiq Forty bucks shipped >:) I should feel ashamed of myself but I don't :-) The key feel is very good but eight of the keys don't send signals to the computer. Time to buy more canned air :-) Or maybe an actual project if I can convince myself that my feeble soldering skills ...

Re: Keyboard enthusiast age structure

I should write a rambley thing about keyboards and I. I'm far older than most of you folks, I'll be 60 at the end of August, but even during the early 80s I had a real thing for how all the different keyboards looked/felt/sounded, and none of them were compatible with anything else :-) I drifted awa...

Re: Alps Appreciation

You'll like that blue Alps comparison video I have planned ;) . It's true though, the differences are huge. I've been told by people that own both that the DC-3014 doesn't sound AS good as the DC-2014, either - but this is subjective, of course. Just recently I acquired a DC-2014. It apparently had...

Re: IBM Model F AT modification

A late addition. So I got another 5160 with the thought I'd just do a case transplant. It got here with Futaba MA switchs. I don't know.... they are so weird that I may keep it as is. Very odd... like typing on jars of home made jam. So odd, yet I kind of like it.

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

Hey! I think I got that board off ebay the other day :-) Serial number and little smudge close to the broken clip are the same. The seller (or someone) wrapped the top case in some sort of cammo.....doesn't look awful, but that's why I was thinking of transplanting the innrards into a model F case....

Re: IBM Model F AT modification

So, I came into a Chicony 5160 AT with blue alps. The switchs are great but the case is uninspiring. On the other hand I have a broken IBM model F AT in the big basket of broken keyboards. You can probably see the wheels turning. So.... anyone ever put the innards of such a thing in a model F AT ca...

Look at about 59 seconds in, turn your head to the left, and see a familiar logo.

Re: Ah, this unique beauty!

Ebay gods were smiling down upon me. This arrived today. The F9 key is missing and the switch is broken, missing the slider. Thinking I'll just buy a replacement switch and replace the guts. See if that works. My first blue alps board and it feels amazing. Using Soarer's USB converter. Had to move ...

Re: Blue Alps

I'm up to four blue alps boards, luckily all in very good condition. It's like a disease, I want more :-)

Two gold badge Omni keys, a Computerland branded board, and an Acer KB 101A. I still love buckling springs, but.....YUM!

Re: Alps Appreciation

Just recently I got a Computerland badged board with blue Alps in great condition.

That takes me back....wavy lines....my first computer, a Commodore Vic 20,
was bought at a Computerland with the prize money the physics at my University gave me. I guess that was my very first keyboard too.

I really lucked out not long ago. This with the two Northgate Gold Badge boards are my small but much loved blue ...

Very nice! Those are near divine :-) have you tried them ? Oh yes :-) I got one from Orihalcon :-) I'm not 100 percent sure, but back when I was in grad school there was a room full of terminals that connected to the IBM mainframe. I remember being very impressed with the massive keyboards; I think...

Also, is that branding on the bottom of the switch in your last picture?
It's just smudges in the plastic as far as I can see.

Yes, that seller has had some very neato beans things in their storage. I ended up getting a nice SMK board from them.

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

I got this for cheap on ebay. Flimsy build, I'd guess it's mostly plastic, but the switches are so obnoxiously clicky it's sort of hilarious. Re: Acer KB 101-A

That got me thinking...there's an old broken Matias board in the wicker basket
of keyboards that have something wrong with them. I took it apart and there were
a pair of lovely space bar clips...a bit of messing about and fixed space bar :-)

Thanks for all the help guys!

Matias sells Alps stabilizer kits. Although I recommend filing a tiny bit off the bottom so they don't bottom out on the plate (quality of them seems to have dropped recently).
Thanks! If my digging through the spare parts boards doesn't work out I'll have a look at that.
