Re: A Few Little Compaq Portable III (?) Keyboard Parts

Whoops, fell off the world for a minute. Sorry! Balance is kinda an issue sometimes... /stumble Whoa... see what I mean? ;) Also bump... and @ZedTheMan, if that's how cool kids type, never freaking mind, yikes. The sort of, er, 'intellect' (I use that term loosely!) that thinks that that's perfectly...

Re: Nothing

I've got plenty of that, and a whole lot more... and I virtually guarantee that you'll find absolutely NONE of it interesting!

But if you think I might be wrong... PM me so I can prove it :D

A Few Little Compaq Portable III (?) Keyboard Parts

Hello! I have a keyboard off of an old Compaq Portable III. The rest of the machine is unsalvageable, sadly, but I want to get the keyboard working for a really cool other project I have that it's perfect for. I need a replacement Numpad Minus keycap, a couple (literally like two) of the little rect...

Re: Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

Iiiiinteresting...! I kind of wondered TBH.

No response yet from Chyrosran... predictably...

Anyone else can help? It needs a replacement boot and the foam + foil/plastic disc assembly stuck back together, at this point :-/

Re: Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

Ohhh dear... :-/ These are specifically Keytronic *tactile* keyswitches, the ones with the little rubber boot around them for the pop-back springiness. I seem to have lost the boot, unfortunately, and the switch's foam-and-foil bits are starting to fall apart... ...and the switch seems to want to st...

Re: Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

@zzxx53... a few immediate thoughts from watching the video... (apologies if typos make it through, typing on phone ATM.) I have Super Glue, the gel kind that Dollar Tree sells. I actually recommend it because of what many others might see as a flaw... where Krazy Glue brand gel really means it when...

Re: Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

Thx :) don't have needle files or (right now) the ability to buy 'em. Early October, probably... if I can get em at the local Walmart. But I can be pretty clever with an Xacto knife. I can be, er, pretty clumsy (boy that's a story lol) but when I'm not being clumsy I'm not half bad. FWIW, the switch...

Re: Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

No suggestions...? Again, if the post feels too long, skip to the line below the all-caps-red-text remark... sorry for the sarcasm about that, BTW -- it's me, not you ;) I'm a millennial who is not affected by the Twitterization of communication these days (TBH I have been known to read entire novel...

Vintage Compaq Portable III Keycap Repair :-/

Ermmm... for those who have Twitter-length linguistic tolerances :( skip to the YEEEEESH, GET TO THE FREAKIN' POINT, STARHAWK! text in bright red below... also, you have my sympathies. For those who prefer a bit of meaningful background, read on from here ;) Hey -- I was raised to be respectful of o...

Re: Need Help with QMK, MagicForce MF68 Oddball Rebuild

I think I may just buy a Teensy 2.0 and make it that much more simple. I have to leave on a trip on Saturday, anyways, so it's not like I really have much time to further poke around with this before then.

Re: Need Help with QMK, MagicForce MF68 Oddball Rebuild

What threw me about the OneKey project is that it doesn't seem to define any pins -- or, at least, I couldn't figure out where the pin definitions were. I would like to get known good code before I start bodging wires and such, so as to avoid the otherwise inevitable "is it software or is it hardwar...

Re: Need Help with QMK, MagicForce MF68 Oddball Rebuild

Re code complexity... fair enough. I didn't know that. Re the Teensy itself. I've already been to visit The Great Goog, as that's almost always my first stop, and he wasn't very helpful. Re posting code, the problem is that there are multiple files to post, and I don't even know that I've got all th...

Need Help with QMK, MagicForce MF68 Oddball Rebuild

I hope ya'll are a bit friendlier than the "QMK official forums" on Reddit, where I was roundly ignored. I have an unmodified MagicForce MF68. I wish to modify it in an unusual way. I have determined that this method of modification is the easiest and cheapest way for me to do it, and I would strong...
