Jumping in at random here, but would anyone be interested in going in on JIS-styled split spacebar setup? I think I'd be pretty interested in picking up two macro pads and trying to use them like a split keyboard, as long as they have 20 keys minimum (probably 30 would be ideal for attempting that)

I'd love it if it were possible to get JIS, but if not I'd happily take ISO or a split left shift/right shift/enter/backspace layout.

I've requested a pingmaster based layout that happens to have a 000 key as part of it (because that was on the pingmaster), not sure if that would help.

It's pretty cheap to get a large sheet of transparent plastic on Amazon, so usually I just cut the plastic to shape manually.

I put myself down as interested in an SSK, but if there's a chance of JIS I'd much rather wait for that, especially if it'd be possible to get the JIS tiny space bar which wasn't possible on the F77.

I believe the 半角／全角 key needs to be the grave keycode, escape should probably be off on the right with the windows key.
I plan to split left shift and put 半角／全角 there, but I don't think that should be the default.

My memory is the early 5556 keyboards had katakana in the bottom right and Latin characters in the bottom left. If they wanted to make that layout I'd happily pick it up in addition to the current vintage proposal, it's quite cool looking imo.

I use a 5954339 at work and think the katakana printing looks awesome, but since it's not buckling spring I think it's less accurate for the new Model F. I believe the legends on it are similar to 5556 legends.

I know that the A01 is most common, but for historical accuracy I think it is best to mimic either the 003 because it is an SSK or the C01 because it used IBM buckling springs. It's not like the F62 or F77 are the most common Model F keyboards either, there's no need to go for something just because...

I believe the Unicomp New Model M uses their shorter space bar, the same as their old JIS 106-key and the short space bar Ellipse offers, which allows adding one 1.25/1.5 key. Creating a proper JIS layout would require shortening it further to add another two additional keys. I don't have my F77 yet...

I imagine the issue isn't just that they don't have a 2.5U mold, but that the barrels and whatnot underneath aren't designed to fit the extra keys. If there's a way to fit them I'd happily manually cut my space bar down to 2.5U.

As long as the option 1 keys are offered as extras I think option 3 is likely the best bet.

Edit: Actually, it might be better to swap alt and the hiragana key for symmetry and so the key is closer to space.

I'd happily second a shorter space key, but unfortunately the previous example already seems to be using the shorter space bar style (the same as the one in JIS Unicomp layout) and I'm not sure it can come any shorter.
