I am looking for a set of beamspring keycaps. Ideally in QWERTY layout.
What are you looking for specifically?

Are you looking for actual beamspring compatible keycaps, like from Selectric typewriters, or OG beamspring keycaps?
Original and the complete set.

Unicomp group buy - EU ONLY

Does anyone want anything from Unicomp? I am planning on ordering some keycaps that I've been looking for long. Happy to order stuff on your behalf - that way we can share Unicomp's steep shipping fees. Please note 16% import VAT applies (plus fees as charged by the carrier). Shipping from me to you...

F-AT? ... the best compromise of wrist friendly height, good switches and reasonable layout :) The best switch feel, sound and build quality is the F XT. If you ask me, the IBM F XT is the best keyboard IBM ever made. Hmm interesting to prefer XT over AT. Is it build quality of the XT that gives it...

Count me in!

The US has one of the most expensive shipping prices in the world.
Just as a comparison, I have shipped keyboards to Australia and Korea for less than 20 euros from Germany !

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

The new one piece keycaps from Unicomp are quite smooth on model Fs, at least in my opinion. The older two part unicomp keycaps are DEFINITELY scratchy on model Fs but not really noticeable on Model Ms.

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter

I once had a dead controller on one of my Fs. It wasn't worth the effort to try figure out the dead part. I found it easier to just replace the controller. However, in the case of an XT, replacing the controller requires you to cut off the controller from the PCB and solder in a replacement controll...

I honestly don't get the rage about the bottom row It looks terrible. Its a horrible layout Its none standard you can swap out the shorter spacebar and the windows key and replace with a longer spacebar. Personally I couldn't care less about the layout. All my boards have a different layout anyway.

Sorry, second one: IBM Model F 3178 with a Gold badge https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-MODEL-F-3178-BUCKLING-SPRING-KEYBOARD/164235482970?hash=item263d32975a:g:Lx0AAOSw6IFe3Pkd There's no gold badge as such. It's the yellowing on the protective plastic that makes it look like gold. Also that price is a...

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

This is available publicly and also on D&B, Bisnode, etc. Comparing unicomp's revenue to Joe's project is laughable. Unicomp sells thousands of keyboards to their corporate customers. Most of their revenue comes from large custom orders. Any reason for change of font, colours, etc will only make sen...

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

... ....I mean Joe Strandberg has an advertised gross sales of 1.1M with his Model F project. That's gotta be something that could be profitable for Unicomp if they pursued something similar. I don't understand why they don't.... Unicomp's annual revenue is in excess of USD 25 million annually. Ove...

I painted my F and M 122s. Perhaps these pics will inform your decision. The only thing I don't like about retrobriting is that it turned out uneven for me. :( Yeah, I've seen some retrobriting horror stories. Like even for David Murray/The 8-Bit Guy, he's had things come out marbly (like his Osbou...

Re: New member question

No, an xwhatsit is only designed for capacitive sensing boards.

To use a solenoid for a model M you have to create a custom controller, assign a pin on the controller to fire the solenoid and use a transistor or relay to connect the solenoid.

I've seen this happen several times with different keyboards. My unproven conspiratorial hunch has been that certain sellers are bidding up their own merch. That actually makes a lot of sense. He (or she...women can be extortionists too!) probably had the last bid of $315 hoping someone would beat ...

That pricing is anything but fair if you ask me.

You can build your own for about 10 euros/dollars
I've just built some myself and the parts definitely cost more than 10€/usd.
I built one last week for 8 euros
