I wasn't trying to correct you, I was just trying to supplement the info you provided. :) You remind me a person who constantly told me "electrons do not perceive color as we do. What was the signal called?" I'm not sure what that means to be honest. Was he referring to photons? Was he referring to...

Re: Help: indetify PS/2 cables

In my experience different ps/2 cables use different colors for the wires---for example when I rewired my F122 which came with a cut cable, my replacement ps/2 cable had a red and orange wire instead of white and yellow. What I did was I followed this chart because the pinout will always be the same...

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Everything looks like it could be fixed with a little elbow grease, and the things that seem like they wouldn't be fixable are still relatively available. You're very lucky that the keys didn't smash into a million pieces during shipping! That's what happen...

Weird mount...maybe some kind of rubber dome? Who would want to take away real keys from their keyboard and replace them with dedicated gun and fist keys?

You could probably expect to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-100 on ebay plus shipping which is not nothing. The one's that have been serviced go for about $200+ currently.

Re: Can Firmware be Replaced?

I believe you need eeprom onboard the keyboard to program macros or reflash the device with new firmware. You need additional space to store the macros that isn't being taken up by firmware as well, which I doubt would exist. Your best option is to purchase a third party dongle that can bind macros ...

The smaller (rectangle) one came later and is a cheapening of the product. They're more likely to break/crack in my own experience.

Re: Any love for a customized Model F 122

Yep! Thanks for the pics SneakyRobb! IBM definitely could have intended for the numberpad to be arranged in the way I have pictured, but I haven't been able to find any documentation to confirm or deny that, so I was wondering if anyone else knew. Maybe the stabs were for a special function key for...

Re: IBM Model F AT Key Issues After Foam Change?

Sorry that you werent able to get that to work. One last piece of advice is to open it up and swap the spring from the left shift to a 1u key. I recommend trying this first because it will potentially save you the money on new key caps if its the spring thats the problem or if theres a mistake with ...

I’ve seen a few instances where the little nub that orients the spring is gone and in that case would be a problem with the cap itself and would just need to be replaced.
I suspected this as well, but I figured it was unlikely. I didnt know that it was a common occurrence!

Re: IBM Model F AT Key Issues After Foam Change?

Thanks for the pics :) In the picture "lshift_spring.jpg" is the keyboard tilted backwards fully? It looks like the spring is still facing forward. If the spring moves freely in an identical way to the spring for caps lock, but isn't centered in the barrel when you tilt the keyboard back, use a toot...

Re: IBM Model F AT Key Issues After Foam Change?

The wire stabilizers shouldnt affect anything, if theyre seated properly. IBM didnt skimp on engineering back in the day and they wouldnt design a key that bottoms out before it actuates. Try tipping the keyboard back so only the cable coming out of the rear of the keyboard is touching the ground or...

I don't see a point in continuing this conversation. This is only going to end poorly for all parties. Nothing anyone says is going to change what RedMaus says and nothing he says is going to change anyone's mind that's already made up.
