Re: Need a beamspring keycap (8)

I am delighted to hear that is not being separated from the system! I love those keyboards but the entire system together is just something else... I am in Australia and was nearly going to get it but the shipping was pretty s***. Definitely keep a thread here of the resto process as I'm sure others...

Re: Need a beamspring keycap (8)

Hello! I am restoring an IBM 6580 DisplayWriter. I have done the main unit and the monitor. I just need to do the floppy drives and keyboard now. The keyboard is one of the challenges. I almost have everything I need, and am halfway through the restore process. One thing I am missing is the ‘8’ key...

Re: Model F Technical Manual Project

I am looking for someone with a converted 3178 Model F "Blue Switch" (or derivate like 3104). I would like to get a good photograph of the internal controller (xwhatsit or similar). Hello, I have fully converted a 3178 with a cypress board. :D Hi, if you find time, can you take pictures from the ou...

Re: Quest Versakey programmable keyboard

The software for the 2100 was discontinued after Windows 95 and does not work with later Windows versions (but I can still send it to you if you want). The 2100 had a flip index to be placed around the programmable block. I may have a used one somewhere. As for the G81-8308 (it has dreadful MY swit...

That looks great, it could almost pass for a Cherry product (except, you know with a sensible macro creation process). How are the keycaps printed?
They're doubleshot ABS, not sure who makes them but I know I recognize the type, they have the diamond cross-hatch on the underside of them

Re: Quest Versakey programmable keyboard

That's a great board. NKRO + driverless macro creation is a great combo. The case has a similar front bezel to a G80-3000, could you get a shot of the side profile? I agree! It is quite similar, the back seems to be a lot flatter than the G80-3xxx though as it doesn't have the angled bit https://i....

Now that's a nice keyboard for professional use.
Are you actually able to program it?
Yes :) goes like this
Learn key (learn LED blinking) - macro key to be assigned to ( learn LED solid ) - keystrokes to be assigned - learn key (LED off)
layer 2 accessed by cartridge key

Quest Versakey programmable keyboard

Hey DT. Recently picked up this Quest Versakey keyboard and thought it was interesting enough to share. Quest International Computers is what seems to be a now defunct Australian computer company. According to the label, this keyboard was made in Australia in early 1994. The Versakey is an AT compat...

Re: The Memespring: A Restoration Log

A new barrel plate could be sorted out with an afternoon of CAD and a fabricating shop. Funny you mention, the wonderful SneakyRobb actually made me a model of a 3101 barrel plate in CAD. But from what I've heard, milling a one off like that out of metal would probably cost more than the whole beam...

Re: Alps Appreciation

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy an Omnikey from Northgate Bob but I'm trying to decide on which one out of three gen 2's to get. There's a 102, a 101 I and a 101 N. I think the N has that weird nav cluster so that wouldn't be my first choice. The N and possibly the I have a plastic rear cover, whi...

Re: Alps Appreciation

AEKII.png Apple Extended Keyboard II. Alps cream damped. Not a very artsy picture, but I think the condition of the keyboard makes up for it. So, after having four or five Alps clone keyboards come to me, I now have three Alps: this one, a Chicony with SKCM pine white Alps, and a cool-looking termi...

Re: Vintage MX Blacks - smoothness due to use, manufacture or something else?

I believe there was some changes to the materials used in the early 90s. I have NOS vintage blacks and modern MX blacks and they are nothing alike I don't know how the modern ones are so scratchy!
as for the specific change in the materials, who knows.

Fujitsu Leafspring keyboard - converted!

Hey DT. I received this Sanyo MBC-885 keyboard some time ago and have been on the fence about converting it or not. FLS are difficult to convert as most of them speak a proprietary protocol; meaning that usually a controller replacement is the way to go, which is what I ended up doing. I traced out ...
