Re: XT/AT/PS2/Terminal to USB Converter with NKRO
Is there any way to determine which MCU is inside a ready-made Soarer's Converter, without tearing it apart? I want to buy one online, but I suspect the affordable ones will have firmware older than what I need, and updating it requires knowing which microcontroller's ID and firmware to use. If not...

Re: How to fix Model F PCB
You could measure the capacitance of each good row with an avr transistor tester, then put an appropriately sized capacitor on the bad row to match the rest, after the trace is repaired. that's what i would try at least. the hard part is finding room for the capacitor, and the trace repair. perhaps ...

Thanks gipetto; they both seem like good options to consider for the Model F Ortho. If anyone could recommend a comprehensive factory default programming for the ortholinear Model F (including function layers) that would be helpful. I am seeing various recommended configurations online for the Ergo...

The details on the ergodox model can be found here: https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/product/ortholinear-split-ergonomic-model-f-keyboard/ Unfortunately, it operates like two separate keyboards without a direct connection between the two halves. I would be very interested if someone has a plan on ho...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
Yes, performing the PS/2 on a different set of GPIO pins (assuming any are still available) would of course work, but the way I read the requirements was that Ellipse was hoping one could hook up to PS/2 without needing to open up the keyboard just by using a passive adapter on the host-end of the ...

PS/2 support for xwhatsit controller: How easy would it be to adjust the current controller to make a dozen or so ones with this chip instead of the ATMEGA32U2 chip? Per pandrew: this chip has "16k of flash memory. Qmk firmware currently uses around 22k. That's not to say it's impossible. It's prob...

USB is silly complicated. Why not generate XT or AT scan codes using discrete components and leave all the translation/fancification to a separate middlebox? No joke, i have a love for through hole keyboards and i would absolutely love to do this, but it's way beyond my skill level. i think for a d...

go for it, though something with 3u in the middle like the lumberjack or even a full split would avoid most of the issue.

I have been using qwerty keyboards, both iso and ansi for over 20 years and always found myself hitting the wrong key, then backspacing subconsciously to find out where my fingers are. i never learned to type properly. when i went to preonic layout since it was so much smaller i was able to stop tha...

you should do a controller replacement with a teensy 2.0 or rp2040 dev board, that is assuming you don't need adb any more.

some people have allergies to rubber and chlorination is a way to chemically treat it to avoid that issue. i think it uses bleach so you probably already have all you need to do so.

Re: Merge C64 and VIC-20 keyboard articles?
I own a c64 and don't see any need to merge both articles as it would cause confusion. the keycap colours between the c64 and vic20 are different, and keycaps are every bit as important as the mechanisms themselves, some would say even more so since the c64 had a heavy typing experience. they are no...

Re: Consul 262.3 keyboard with Hall Effect switches
I wouldn't bother with a custom pcb. From other threads any solder rework done tends to fry the hall effect sensors. but i'm sure a controller replacement would be the easiest route. I assume a hold type hall effect would be similar to the alps em encoder datasheet. they have 3 pins for each sensor,...

Re: !HELP Dactyl manuform not working
swap the diode direction in the qmk code and see what happens, ROW2COL or COL2ROW. it's a common mistake for builders to make. if that doesn't work you'll need to copy down the pinout and manually edit into the code, or if you don't want to maintain a unique code then change the wiring to match the ...

Re: 'Vaporfly' switches - I want'em!
the selling point is that it increases running efficiency. I am unsure how that could improve a switch. if you are talking about replacing a membrane with the foam the vaporfly uses the difference would be negligible. rubber done keybs are already quite easy to actuate.

No, fairly sure mine is 6.25. Mine is still usable but it jams occasionally. When i attempted to straighten the key it cracked so i reinforced the crack with hot glue. Mine looks like the bottom style with two barrel posts, if i chopped the key down i would lose the stab bar.

I was an idiot and washed mine in hot water and warped it. I figure someone might have made an stl of one as they seem to be a common failure point.

if you look at the f107 bidding history there are 26 consecutive bids from $1,450 to $3,550 from the same bidder before being outbid. the timestamps are weird as the winning bid from a different bidder has an older timestamp. i guess that is ebays automatic bidding feature. It wouldn't be impossible...
