Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?
kshopper2084, if paste wax works for you, I'm really happy about it, because it's inexpensive. I'd want to find out what you're lubing -- top housing rails, slider side(s), etc. -- and how long it does work. I'd also be interested if you can use a conventional method to remove said wax, like just b...

It's only been a few hours, but I'm kind of loving the switches I lubed with Johnson's Paste Wax.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Hi guys, can someone point me to the post that summarizes that actual current findings on the original lube question? Where did that end up? Seriously now, let me answer your question: The current findings for the OG lube are that we actually have learned the exact name of the lubricant that were u...

Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?
NeK I appreciate all the work you've put in to testing things, creating videos, posting results, etc. But sometimes the manner in which you choose to communicate an idea is as important as what is being communicated. First of all, thank you. Now, you are right that I am behaving like a dick lately,...

Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?
You do appreciate how desperate you sound, don't you? I've pointed out numerous times that I've in fact tried both approaches - wax and nyogel/oks - and found them both to be worthwhile. You're the one who seems incapable of having a nuanced discussion. Pull yourself together, man. I am just sick a...

Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?
...Also it happens that I was the one that actually started off this wax craze... Well I was the one who half-jokingly suggested the original lube might be some generic variation of Johnson's Paste Wax, long before anyone had actually waxed their switches. Not that any of my original Alps keyboards...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
You know what does work well for polishing? A dremel using a felt tip (without any compound, just the felt tip). It polishes the rough parts pretty well. I plan to write about this, in detail, in my dedicated thread about restoring ALPS switches. I suspect that it would heat the plastic enough to m...

Re: New Matias Keyboards
Interesting. Perhaps the bigger news is they also extended the warranty on the Ergo Pro to 2 years.
Love the keyboard and use it everyday but went through hell with 3 different units over the years with switches dying, one controller chip failing, etc.

Re: Matias Tactile Pro 4 Problem
FYI you can use the main PBT caps from your ASK on the ergo. That's what I did and it works out well.
Unfortunately the bottom row command key, etc. will still be shiny with use.

Re: Matias Tactile Pro 4 Problem
I'm still thinking about replacing all the switches in my Matias Ergo with Alps cream damped. ... I've written to Matias to buy new key caps for my Ergo and they don't return my e-mails. Rather rude for a Canadian company :D. Do it! Everyday I get the satisfaction of typing on my Ergo Pro with Salm...

Re: What's the best modern tactile/clicky switch?
From my experience with Matias Quiet Click switches, they were completely unreliable and would fail within months of daily use. Apparently if you have the dexterity of surgeon you can clean them and fix them but I just replaced them, over and over until I gave up and swapped them all out for vintage...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I'm no expert but yeah, a tiny bit goes a long way with this stuff. Re: "seasoning" the lube, I would recommend you use the keys initially to ensure the lube is spread across the areas where friction occurs. I don't think leaving the switch idle is going to do anything, any benefit from time would b...

Thank you all! I really like the brochures too! I was planning to scan all the paper documents before selling them. I don't want them to get lost or destroyed during shipping. If somebody wants to help me put them up on the deskthority wiki after scanning I'd appreciate it! Perfect! I have to say i...

Re: Alps Appreciation
Yesterday I finalized my AT102DW with all SKCM Orange, my daily driver now. 210 solder spots to remove, 105 switches to remove, 210 solder spots to reapply. Ouch. It paid off to invest in a TS100 soldering iron (temp control, big ass tip from a 9-tip set), a Soldapullt desolder pump and braided wic...

Re: Recent Matias Switch Reliability
Addressing the question on Matias, though, I'm currently typing this on a Matias Ergo Pro 2 keyboard (2017 or 2018, I think). It's got four or five switches that need to be replaced. However, considering that the number is less than 10, I'll buy some new Matias switches. If it goes above 10, I migh...

Not glamorous, but Kinesis Freestyle 2 boards with the original domes (not mechanical) have a very light activation force and have read others with your condition found them helpful.

Re: Keyboards banned from work
I have not, but it is a bit ironic to think that this business computer keyboard is no longer suitable for use in a business office.
I think it says *a lot* about the suitability of modern office spaces with their lack of visual and noise privacy.

Re: AEK keycaps suck.
Can't comment on the apparent fragility incidents experienced by the OP, but the durability and feel of the PBT keycaps are far superior IMHO to ABS. ABS shine is terrible. The 30 year old M0116 caps on my Ergo Pro washed up to as new with dish soap and feel fantastic. Whereas the ABS caps on start ...

Re: Matias Ergo Pro w/ Salmon ALPS & PBT caps
I'm using a micro-usb cord without that annoying 90 degree angle to try to reduce any tension on the port as well. But with these boards you're always waiting for the other show to drop. :( Keep an eye out on Ebay you might find a decent replacement for far less than retail. I did snag a used ergo ...

Matias Ergo Pro w/ Salmon ALPS & PBT caps
Just thought I would post-up my recent Ergo Pro project. Sorry for the length but thought someone might find it interesting. TLDR; I replaced the stock switches in my Matias Ergo Pro with vintage SKCM Salmon complicated ALPS and white PBT keycaps from a donor Apple M1066 board and it blew my mind. a...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?
From what I understand you could produce SKCM tactile, clicky, and linear variants using virtually the same parts as well. So you'd get three best-in-class switches from one set of tooling.
