Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
It's good to want to understand why things work, when they work. It would also be interesting to try both steps separately, so just boiling without the wax, and just the wax boil. I have, not as good, but still good. Boiling is just effective cleaning, it gets more dirt off than the ultrasonic bath...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
If you want to tediously disbelieve the findings of the many people who have done it, please just don’t boil and wax your switches.
Or just try it and you’ll see it’s superb. Up to you mate.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
It's a very effective cleaning method, it's also good for evenly coating things in paraffin wax. Dip anything in boiling water with a bit of wax in it, dry that thing off and you'll see it's got a thin coating of wax.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Tbh dirt is the least of the issues. The whole point is it to make the plastic stem surfaces as smooth and polished as possible. I use a dremel with felt tip to polish them one by one. Also the metal leafs need to be polished as well. And all of that before adding any kind of lube. I'm very skeptic...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
FWIW, I acetone tested bamboo alps, and they do melt, so are probably abs, but they're a lot hardier to acetone than most abs things I've tested, like they're not just abs. Pine alps are not attacked by ABS, the patent says they're PBT, though they don't really seem it. I've boiled both, they don't ...

I really hope the moulds are used for a further run.
My zfrontier order is stuck in china post, has been for almost a month ;_;
I'd also love a gray coloured one.

Re: Has anyone swapped a 5251 keycaps with black selectric caps?
Yup.
The caps on my 5251 were not in great condition, mostly yellowed, and some had been replaced so the texture didn't match at all.
I use WoB selectric caps and i think they still look great.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Nothing, I said I agree with the conclusion, just the methodology is flawed. You are probably right that it is flawed. I am concerned though, if you think that the test is totally useless. I think that despite its flaws, if one object is a lot more slower than another (has obviously higher friction...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Friction can behave very differently between different materials, so the slide test against glass isn't necessarily conclusive. I'd agree with the conclusion though, I've never seen a 2nd coloured gen slider that looked like the same material as a 1st gen slider. I compared all three of them togeth...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
That means that both white stems were much smoother (had lower friction) than the blue one. And with that result, my final verdict is that this white skcm stem is no different from all the other white skcm stems and it is made from the same newer material. Despite that, this particular white stem w...

i’m still waiting for mine from the zfrontier buy. I’m not intending to use cherry mx switches with it, would you mind sharing the plate dxf? Re: Recreate Cherry G81-3077(TKL)
nice.
i’m planning on using skcm switches with canon keycaps. I have an ISO with split right shift and a 6u spacebar.
It’ll definitely need a custom pcb and plate which I’ll have made by jlc, not sure who i’ll get the plate from. am unsure if I want steel or carbon fibre.

This does not surprise me, it's a really bad idea for ABS caps, I hope OP hasn't done this.Half-Saint wrote: ↑04 Jul 2021, 14:51Hmm, I actually only tried this with thick cherry PBT caps and it worked great. You have to put them in a laundry wash bag of course.

Re: Removing "deep grime" from beamspring keycaps
They're ABS, won't they soften and warp?
Dishwashers run quite hot, this is only safe for PBT and even then I wouldn't go with this method, there's anyways a risk one gets loose and damaged.

Or make it an option people can request. Many of us are 100% fine with DIYing it and would rather keyboards be shipped asap.

I feel like if they were the same weight this wouldn't be an issue.
For me, a model m is just a bit too heavy to be comfortable, so while F is good for me, M is unusable.

That w key really doesn't look like dyesub, like the legend isn't perfect. If it's just a bad pic I'd post another to clarify what it's like, but if it is like that then your price is a bit high.

A UK ISO IBM 5140 module.
I don't even really care about the skcm browns, I have them in a videowriter and I prefer oranges. I just want the chassis and keycaps so I can map the matrix and convert it.

It's one thing to be defensive, but quite another to resort to performative self-importance. "Performative self-importance" is a tactic for people who have not already won every social-status game they care about. Someday you may find out what it's like to have nothing left to prove to anybody - I ...
