Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

Look, I'm sorry that evaluation offends you. Really I am. I'm not trying to beat up on anybody. But here's what I see from the outside: Soarer pulled inexcusably careless, risky shit and nobody called him on it. Nobody said "Hey, we could be in legal trouble using those blobs without a license". No...

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

DT people have what by my standards is a very weird culture. Anonymous developers? Shipping hex blobs with no licenses? That's... bizarre. In the hacker culture I come from, we assume that disclosed source code is the only thing that can be trusted, and people will stand behind their work with thei...

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

No, Soarer doesn't get off the hook for bad practice because it was a beta. Correct action is to attach a grant of rights to your first commit , so people looking at the code won't instantly be in a legally compromised position. If this place weren't a weird little tidepool disconnected from hacker...

I would love for shallot to prove me wrong and produce something good and usable and open source straight out of the box.

But I'm not going to rely on Real Soon Now(tm).
I literally have a couple of prototypes on my desk, so, prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

I use "his" in the classic English sense when an non-sex-specific third person pronoun is called for. Point of order here, but using him in that situation is improper English. The correct gender neutral third person pronoun is "they." Whoever told you him was gender neutral was mistaken. Singular "...

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

I think the answer to this whole debacle is quite obvious... If someone wants to continue expanding on soarers work decompile it and throw it on github. If soarer wants to suddenly come back from the grave to dispute his work being expanded upon then so be it and then we will also possibly know why...

Re: How to service an Apple Keyboard M0116

I'd try reflowing the solder first, and if that doesn't work, desolder the switches, remove the switchplates and bathe them in isopropyl alcohol in a jar. Let them soak and shake the jar a bit periodically. Dry them out, put them back together and multimeter the switches before soldering them back o...

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

Have you considered just doing some programming tho? seems easier. Yes, it would be that. I maintain, at last count, somewhere over 50 open-source projects. I'm never short of work to do. But it also true that lots of people can sling code. Far fewer also know IP law, have a nodding acquaintance wi...

Would you happen to know if it is also possible to remove the top housings of the switches without desoldering like you can with alps switches? My board happens to have two switches with ...

My current favourites:

an ISO SGI granite I rebuilt with ambers alps
an apple M0118 with orange alps
a custom using the aliexpress tkl case, blue alps and DCS yuri.

I don’t often use other boards for longer than a few days, those three I could each use forever without complaints.

it doesn’t bother me at all. I thought it would, but I’ve used some alps doubleshots for a couple of days that don’t have bumps. it just made zero difference.

Re: Alps Appreciation

I’ve finally got a no compromise good result with nexus sliders. MT3 works night and day better with them than SA, I just swapped SA Dasher for MT3 Dasher and it’s wonderful. it had some binding with SA, that’s completely solved. The board uses SKCM orange with modified original housings. A8051E6D-8...

I'd go for salmon alps, a decent salmon alps board can be had for under a hundred bucks, and they're much much nicer than bamboo black alps.

Either an M0116/M0118 or AEK1.

Re: Model M's lighter then White Alps???

Yeah, bamboo alps are a little stiffer generally than buckling spring. Pine white alps are marginally lighter, there's not much in it though. It was just odd to me. I have used black alps extensively in the past without an issue. The weighting feels quite similar after I dug out my AT101 to compare...

Re: ISO PBT double shot key caps?

pbt does not doubleshot well, you usually only see pbt doubleshots with shine through lettering.

if you want opaque doubleshots you’ll need abs, or just accept dyesubs.
