Dome with slider, there is no switch, just a slider through the plastic plate which will hit a membrane behind.

Re: Alps Appreciation
probably a coincidence, though if the tai haos are a bit taller than the original keycaps then that will make the scratchyness more apparent. Give then a clean, you can take the switch tops off with toothpicks, separate out the parts and brush out the dust from the switch tops, they'll be much impro...

Re: Post your keyboards that went to hell (and hopefully back)
I'd post my old Matias, which last I used it, typed like "ttthhhhiiissssss". But that never came back, it got chucked when every single key had chatter, and the companies response via email was basically "mechanical keyboards aren't for reliability" which I still have in my inbox because of the abs...

Good luck with that! they rapidly went out of stock after chryosran22 put out a positive review of a Laser board with them.

This surprises me, mine's perfectly smooth. No idea if it's lubed, but it's in no way scratchy.

Re: SMK 2nd Gen MX Mount Clickies
Sweet, I wish you could still get them. I have a bag of 100 NOS. They're super smooth, smoother than 1st gen alps, the click is a little more lightweight in sound and tactility though.
They're a really nice switch.

Re: Shit, I fell for it
Anj is somewhat shady, but, the bottom line here is read the description.
I got burned by him a while back "pristine switches no cleaning or lubing necessary" == filled with dust, mediocre condition, some wear that no amount of cleaning will fix.

Re: SMK 2nd Gen MX Mount LInears
I have one as a loose switch. They're pretty smooth. Not a fan of linear though tbh, only bought them as I was curious if you could swap in alps mount SMK click leaves. I just can't for the life of me open them reliably.

Blue, but, they will be very disappointing, in your shoes I’d swap in some box jades or navies. that’s as close as you’re going to get, but it won’t be much like ambers.

I'd love to find a straight UK ISO board with alps doubleshots, but it'll never happen! I've seen a few european layout boards like the Bull AT102, just never qwerty ISO.

Re: Smelly Epson KB03 keyboard - Any advice?
That looks like a really good improvement! Carefully running a vacuum over the top of the switches may help a bit for the other side, and using a small paintbrush to just clean up around the switches will make it a lot cleaner looking, then use an airduster once that dirt is loose. An airduster alon...

Re: Smelly Epson KB03 keyboard - Any advice?
I'd first just try washing the back of the pcb with isopropyl alcohol, but given the amount of rust on that plate, I'm not sure it'll ever be properly nice without desoldering it, washing the pcb fully, wire brushing the plate down, repainting it then reassembling it.

I'm curious what kind of stabs it uses, I couldn't tell from other photos of that board.

Cleaning is def the way to go before buying replacement switches. If the board is not terrible, then it'll probably clean up alright. You just can't make a board that feels flat out awful good. Cleaning up light dirt usually has pretty good results.

Got my ARC - Monterey K102 Keyboard today, very nice with white alps. Although it's a little bit hard to press since i'm used to lighter switches i like it , it even has 6key rollover. very nice. i just don't know if the keys are stiff because they are used or if the white alps are really that hard...

Re: Focus Keyboard Questions
Simplified clones are a lot more difficult to take apart and reassemble without damaging them while they're still soldered to the board. alps artisans arn't really a thing. You can get pretty cheap sets of the same profile though, as they're a byproduct of switch harvesting. You could pick up practi...

DFK192 arrived today, it’s rather exellent! metal mounting plate, n-key rollover with individual switch diodes and the case is really solid. Condition is flawless, borderline NOS other than a scratch on the backspace and some superficial dirt.

Got my wife to finish soldering the amber granite up today and the results are to say the least, extremely excellent. This is my new favourite clicky board, and it may be my favourite overall! just a few finishing touches and I’ll post pics and video of some typing. The noise it makes is just sublime.

Pine alps should be as smooth as a model F. I have both and simply opening up the switches and cleaning them out may make that focus to your liking. Are you sure it's not a clone board?

I tried mounting a hybrid set of ANSI and ISO-DE keycaps on my ISO granite and It looks alright!
Now I have a kinda weird looking ANSI qwertz set and board, which leaves me wondering if there are any qwertz ansi fans out there who this'd be just the thing for?
