Eclipse F62 - technique for replacing spring
I have a New Model F in 62-key layout. When I received it a few keys didn't work reliably or chattered but I have mostly resolved these issues. In one case I removed the existing spring and put in a new one (I have a few spare springs and flippers). I used the technique from the video where you twis...

Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses
Thanks, I might try that technique on my Monterey switches, although I don't believe dust is the problem there; they seem to have just worn out through use. I think I junked the Dell AT101 in the end. I'm really a buckling spring guy, but in 2020 was stuck at my parents' house without a keyboard, an...

Re: Ellipse Model F62 only rarely comes alive
Thanks for the info. To fully resolve this question I'd need to update my keyboard to the latest controller (I assume it has an older controller, having been made in May 2021) and then retest the various cables. If one day I should happen to buy another New Model F, I will revisit this. For the mome...

Re: Ellipse Model F62 only rarely comes alive
Thanks for getting in touch, Ellipse. My question at the moment is not "how can I use the keyboard with a USB-C laptop" -- as you note, it is possible to use an adaptor. Rather, I wanted to reproduce the issue and narrow it down. I don't believe that it is limited to smart cables or USB hubs. Until ...

Re: Ellipse Model F62 only rarely comes alive
Thanks. I believe with the right C-to-A adaptor the board will work. It's ugly, though, that you have to use the C-to-A cable and then the opposite adaptor. For the record, here's the thread where I asked on the New Model F Q&A. The admin does not so far admit that this problem exists, contending th...

Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but as we are talking about old keyboards too I would like to add something. I've also found, anecdotally, that ALPS switches do not age well (certainly not compared to buckling springs). A Dell AT101 was unusable after twenty years on a shelf, while most of the tim...

Re: Ellipse Model F62 only rarely comes alive
Hi, I discovered the same thing -- connecting the F62 to my laptop using a USB-C data cable did not work but to a desktop with USB-C to USB-A is fine. What are the options, then, for connecting it to a device that only has USB-C support? Can I use the USB-C to USB-A cable together with an adaptor, j...
