Re: Unknown SMK J-M0404 Board!
Anyway beyond all that the board is near mint and absolutely lovely to use, has quite a pingy ring to it (not unlike that found in an Alps SKCL board) which I quite enjoy

Re: Unknown SMK J-M0404 Board!
Huh. Given the AT-style key arrangement in the main block and lack of the twinned alt keys alongside the spacebar, I'd bet it was made to look like the "standard" DEC layout, instead of IBM's "weird" AT layout, before IBM's "enhanced" 101-key keyboard jumped onto the DEC bandwagon. From the keyboar...

I'm gonna be rather blunt and suggest high end double sided tape over drilling holes

Unknown SMK J-M0404 Board!
Dear reader! Been a minute since I've written anything here, but I recently gained a unique new additon to my messy collection. Known simply as "Protech KEY BOARD" by the badge, with the numbers KB6150 on the bottom, this board includes black Vintage SMK Linear switches. In a, slightly unconventiona...

Clicky SMK 2nd Gen or White Alps
Note: This isn't meant to start arguments, I just really like both switches and wonder if/why people prefer one over the other. Hey people! Recently I stumbled upon an MX Mount SMK Second Generation Clicky Keyboard in my collection, one that I had frankly completely forgotten about! Now as egregious...

I have one MMM board but it's mostly dead so I've never been able to give them a proper shot sadly.

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYSWITCH thread
Good for you! :D What's it like then? Can you shoot a review rebuttal, or make comparisons with other switches? To me, the individual switches do have that Topre bounce to them, so they really should be quite luscious in a keyboard. That's how I ended up with them in the first place… I currently do...

Re: Toshiba T3200 Alps Keyboard
Well I'll be damned, seems the Toshiba - ALPS connection isn't a one time thing, my personal Toshiba T1500 Keyboard uses Alps SKCL switches (about which I wrote my first post) Very cool ! which version of the switch does it use ? greens ? :P Yep! SKCL green, the keyboard is from (circa since I can'...

See I have a Mitsumi Miniature board (white not yellow) and it's entirely fine? Barely binds, at least not significantly.

Re: what is the best keyboard
From what I have in my collection, IBM Model F and Apple Extended Keyboard II
Re: Jackpot
I've got at least one Tinkerboy converter and I'll confirm that it's good. 1. If you're going to restore it, there are a lot of great articles here. I would highly recommend any one that specifies a lot of clamps. These work great. 2. I failed cutting straight lines in kindergarten, so my attempts ...
Re: Jackpot
Thank you for restoring my hope that this kind of thing still happens to people! You're going to love the Model F key feel, and with hope, will aquire a taste for the layout ;) This keyboard has been a personal holy grail ever since I first got myself acquainted with XT for my Toshiba T1500 (which ...
Jackpot
Thursday at work I hit the fuckin jackpot, I saw it there in a cart. IBM Model F XT 1986 model. As with many older boards it was likely slated to be chopped and recycled, obviously not wanting to let that happen I swooped in and asked my boss for a price. I ended up spending €0,75 on this near prist...

Re: Numpad layouts
I have no huge opinions on the Numpad, however I do believe that TKLs are doing it wrong! I much prefer a Navless layout with the numpad taking both the duty of the numpad and the Nav cluster rather than the numpad being removed in favour of the nav cluster! Imagine the XT layout but modernised and ...

Hey guys! At my job at the thrift shop I have also been able to pic up an Acer 6311! However after attempting a restoration I'm gonna have to conclude that the Matrix is kinda buggered, the home row barely registers and all other keys are hit or miss. Sad news indeed, I don't think I'm gonna attempt...
Re: Score!
Issue with the recycling center I work at is that most of these old keyboards, if not all (lest it has an IBM badge), get the cord cut off to be broken down into parts. Even the AT101Ws were on the chopping block I'm scared to think how many hundreds of boards they've thrown out in the years prior t...
Re: Score!
To update the above thread, I also picked up 2 Dell AT101Ws from the same source.
One of which missing two switches but still a brilliant find especially for someone with an ever growing alps collection! Plan on modding one of them to finally get my foot in the door of that scene

Re: Score!
Personally I'm really happy with the Tulip, the tactile typing feel is swell! That and the Futaba MA board is the one board I haven't yet gotten fully up and running. It doesn't play nice with my basic PS/2 USB converter which isn't too surprising. Honestly I'm more surprised that the other do work ...
Score!
So, nowadays I happen to be working at a local thrift shop And you shoulda seen the look on my face when we got in a whole mini collection of AT Keyboards. Especially when I got told to cut the cords off and toss them into the recycling bin, so after asking my boss I was able to take them home for €...
Re: Cherry MY
I've had experiences with MX clones but I've never actually owned an original MX board, only ever Outemus. It's still on my list to buy. (Gotta catch em all)

T1500 Update
Dear reader! This post is really for the handful of people who read my original post regarding the Toshiba T1500 keyboard I got in a trade. Re: My Alps64 with orange SKCM is disappointing
As someone who's, over time, become quite the fan of Alps switches I do not share your critique. Though I must say that switches are indeed a very personal and often divisive subject! Honestly the quest for a "holy grail" might be futile from the get go. I'd personally recommend just trying out as m...

Re: Keyboard suggestion for Model F, but quieter.
AEK II would be my obvious vote, like the one Muirium pictured.
Though I am quite biased.
The keyboard is hella quiet. Beating out many MX models in sound, Though it obviously has a rather different feel to a Model F.

Re: Thoughts on the Matias FK303
(Sorry for the Necro bump I've been offline for a bit)
On my alps keyboards I've always fixed chatter by spraying in a wee bit of contact cleaner, but that only works with older boards which might suffer from surface level oxidisation.
