Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
I've been doing work on Hercules with a real 3279 and its keyboard. It's been a revelation compared to my M122. The touch is much lighter, with a longer travel past the actuation point. I'm really, really hoping that the beam spring Ellipse is making feels just like it. I don't care about the sound,...

Good points, but I must quibble with this one: you may not use Caps Lock, but I do, especially when, for example, entering JCL to build a job to run on the mainframe.genericusername57 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 08:10since you have the unused Caps Lock-key to switch layers you don't have to change your hand placement to use them

60% really speaks to me because the alpha block is by far the biggest part of a keyboard, even for 120+ key battleships. Layer it and you’ve got an enormous palette for placing your extended functions. All in a neat, portable and symmetrical package. The problem to me - aside from the fact that my ...

Yeah, and my mainframe work needs all 24 F-keys...and the delete, end, PgUp, and PgDn keys are ones I use all the time.

100% agree. I have one on a shelf and it's very smooth and satisfying to press, but much too heavy for me to use for any prolonged time. The new Models F are much nicer to type on for me due to the lighter weighting. I have never tried a beamspring keyboard but look forward to getting my reproducti...

Looking forward to finally getting it...in the meantime, I've acquired a real IBM 3279 with keyboard. I said for a long time that the Model M, no matter how great people think it is, is just too heavy a touch for me. Playing with the 3279 refreshed me on what I actually liked. (I'm an old IBM mainfr...

Thanks! It turns out that the housing dimensions changed very slightly, and that clip *almost* works - but works well enough on the original housing, so I swapped the good clip I had for it and used that on the new housing.

WTB: 3278/3279 space bar
I have acquired a 3279 terminal with keyboard. The keyboard is intact, mostly...but it is missing its space bar and the catch that holds the palm rest door closed. I'm looking to buy both.
And no, I'm not interested in selling. I have the equipment needed to actually use the 3279 as a terminal.

Let me give you an example: I will never again give the Ford Motor Company a dime of my money, even indirectly. Why you would object to the issue being raised repeatedly -- at least until a reasonable response is given -- is beyond me. Are you generally a proponent of giving up if someone gives you the runaround? I would assume not :) Because it's clear that Ellipse is not going to change his methods, no mat...

I have a Memorex Telex 3270-style terminal coming from eBay in a couple of days. Got a keyboard to go with it. Man, this thing is a piece of crap to type on, even compared to a scissor switch Apple. Responding to both of the above. I’ve found that, in general, most communities are shit. Sometimes, though, you might stumble on one that isn’t. I’m lucky to have found two of those for watches. Might be hard to believe, but there really isn’t any snooty elitism in those two communities I’m a part ...

3178 blue switch with xwhatsit universal
I snagged a blue switch 3178 off of eBay last week. It got here yesterday, and I cleaned it up and put a universal xwhatsit I also got off eBay into it. I own two Ms, and a lot of F keyboards. I didn't measure the difference, but it is there and the F is way lighter. Not everyone is able to tell the difference, which seems incredible to me. Agreed, the difference is substantial! I've got a few M122s and a couple of other Ms. My 3178 blue switch F c...

Mine came in today. Nice and clean - well, as clean as a used keyboard ever is - and no need to new foam, since this one was a late production version with neoprene. I'll post pictures tomorrow sometime, most likely.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume the broken trace is the cause. That looks like a configuration jumper, and may or may not be supposed to be there. I'd plug it in and make sure there's +5 between pins 16 (across from the dimple) and 8 (on the same side as the dimple, on the other end) of that SN74L-...

I have seen that someone has used the switch to turn the solenoid on or off. Probably better to emul...
