I was surprised how quickly I picked up most of the letters. The left hand Z, X, C, V and B are the most challenging to relearn and are the only ones I still miss frequently. Not surprising, since the right hand only has to relearn the N and M. Definitely worth the effort; being able to program keys...

Tipro dual 8x8 'split keyboard' - work in progress

Hey all, Inspired by Ceezas workspace, and after a frustrating search for a high quality, adjustable split keyboard, I decided to create one myself from Tipro parts. First, some background info: Hardware The keyboard consists of two Tipro FREE modules 8x8. Keys are mounted black Cherries. The master...

Has anybody tried using a longer cable? Might just work... :) It certainly would. But the cable is connected on both ends to a small socket sitting directly on the PCB. It normally passes through the plastic piece which joins two units together, so there is no hole provided for it in the casing and...

Yes, this relates to the FREE boards. The connecting cable is: "a small MINIDIN connector – looks like PS/2". Regarding black cherry: I'm currently on a Kinesis Freestyle (dome). I'm a fast typist and find that I bottom out on the Freestyle, mostly because of the keys are not reliable at a lighter t...

The problem is that the cable normally used is very short (a few centimeters), as modules usually are physically assembled together. So just make a longer cable if you can, that's all. I just heard from Tipro that if you order one complete board (with the controller) and one slave (without the cont...

OK, thanks. Already investigating where to buy the 8x8.

Sounds like a nice pet project, hopefully without complicated electronic or hardware issues.
If I do decide to go for this, I'll post some pics to Deskthority.

CeeSa has inspired me. I think I'll make something similar, but in 8x8, while I wait for ErgoDox. Does the Tipro come with the double width Shift and Enter keys? Or did you order those separately? What about the force needed to press those double keys. If they are on two switches, don't they require...

Thnx. Interesting.... I'll keep that in mind in case ErgoDox doesn't work for me.

Nice setup, Ceesa. I'm new to deskthority so hadn't seen this before. I could see myself working with something similar. Love the room for extra shortcuts, custom buttons etc. Couple of questions. If you answered these in other posts and I missed this, sorry... You had to rework the electronics to u...

Dorkvader, please add me to the list of people who'd like an *assembled keyboard*. Doing this myself would be a recipe for disaster, frustration and verbal aggression toward innocent bystanders...

Need to figure out my key preference before then.
Either Reds or Browns, or one keyboard for each.

μTRON - considering...know of one to try in the Netherlands?

Hey all, I've been browsing the forums for a while and thought it was time to register. Over the years, I've tried many different keyboards and have become increasingly frustrated (probably like many of you) over the poor build quality, wear and tear, etc. I've currently compromised on a Kinesis Fre...
