Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I'm going to figure out how to chemically apply the wax rather than thermally (so it can be painted on and dried, like the original lubricant was) I will try several solvents and find out which one works best for the bike chain wax. I imagine isopropyl alcohol would be a good solvent for paraffin wax

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
the boiling water works good for cleaning but I prefer to use a hot mixture of soap and simple green then letting it soak for a few minutes stirring every once and a while. After that I rinse with water. You can also boil and or ultra sonic clean them. But once the parts are cleaned using the closed...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I mentioned, a couple pages back, that I've been playing around with something called Finish Line Ceramic Wax Chain Lube and I've been extremely happy with it, especially on pine white Alps. Considering the amount of folks that seem to have had good results with this "hot wax" procedure and because...

Re: Alps wax mod - procedure & evaluation!
https://youtu.be/QIkDOc9cIqw This is the most recent wax video I posted in hopes it would have a higher chance of giving people success. As for the og lube I purchased the ingredients however we still don’t know what ratios of each ingredient was used. But I’ll definitely be testing it out when it a...

Re: Alps wax mod - procedure & evaluation!
Today we look at the Alps wax mod, a cleaning and restoration procedure to restore dirty or damaged Alps switches. It's become pretty widely known recently, so I got a lot of requests to try it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-IF5VmDaMg Thanks again, for posting about the wax mod and bringing...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I tried mixing pfte lube, super lube, nyogel, and krytox with pure paraffin wax and all result in the same thing which is a wax at room temp but is very soft and melts super easily even with like 20% wax it still is like this and doesn't come anywhere near the effectiveness of pure wax and is a very...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
What would happen if you combined a lubricant with the wax (like PTFE) would it make it "slipperier"? I tried mixing the wax with nyogel and it was just slightly better than nyogel no where near as good as pure wax. But I still feel like there is something that could be added to make it even better.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
when I use the boil method I boil the stems and upper housings for about 10-20 minutes. Then I pour the boiling water into a bowl and then add about 0.5 to 1 gram of wax for every 100 sliders. Then add the sliders and stir for a couple of minutes and then let them air dry. But for orange alps I woul...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Yea the boiling for cleaning the switches has been tested by quite a few people and has always turned out fine, but I recommend the rub method for none skcc switches or if you just wanna try out the wax anyway as it is more effective on tactile and clicky switches

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I also had this concern in the beginning but after some research, I found that that paraffin wax is not naturally made and does not have the same corrosive effects as other natural waxes like bees wax, olive oil and coconut oil, and it is a commonly used lubricant in many applications especially on ...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Yea so I was just messing with some bad condition alps switches and tried some wax on one. It seemed to be 10x better than before so then I tried on some other switches and found that the tea light candles have the best result due to their softer texture and having no additives. I also researched we...
