IBM 5100 exact key dimension
Does anyone have a "loose keyboard" or a loose key from an IBM 5100 or similar (5110/5120)? We were trying to find the exact dimension of a single "normal key" (e.g. A-Z, 1-9). I have a keyboard from those systems, but with the keyboard still in the system I can't get clear to the base of the key to...

IBM 5110 keyboard "emulator" and replacement
I've figured out the signals needed to drive the keyboard input on an IBM 5110. That is, I have an IBM 5110 with no keyboard, but now I can "talk to" that 5110 from another PC, using USB-to-serial connection to an Arduino Nano that converts ASCII over into IBM 5110 parallel key inputs. I can type in...

IBM 5100/5110 keyboard KBD_P values
I've been studying aspects of the IBM 5110 recently (like replacing the PSU), and I think I have the info needed to make a replacement keyboard (i.e. what voltages are needed across the parallel pin of the keyboard). I've posted those measurements here: https://forum.vcfed.org/index.php?threads/note...

Re: IBM 5110/5120 keyboard conversion
I realize this is an old thread, but in case it helps: This is from the IBM 5110 Logic Manual, I have a full physical copy. IMG_1774A.jpg The top part (off the page of the poster) is for the tape unit. On the bottom left are annotations related to the keyboard (N6A04, L6C02, M6C02). These come in fr...

Re: IBM 5100 Portable Computer, APL/BASIC
Awesome, next year will be the SCAMPs 50th anniversary - maybe a good opportunity for the Smithsonian to do some public PR about it.

Re: IBM 5100 Portable Computer, APL/BASIC
Is there any IBM 5100 or related discord? Would be nice to contact others with working 5100/5110's, or try to get a sense of just how many are still out there (or if anyone has insight to how many IBM even produced). I've been wondering if anyone has contacts at the Smithsonian, and see if they woul...

Re: IBM 5100 Portable Computer, APL/BASIC
snuci, really nice collection! Anyone with a functional 5106 or internal tape drive? Would love a way to store data (from a 5110, via tape emulation or disk emulation) - but I understand not the easiest thing to do with a specialized PALM processor and somewhat undocumented I/O boards (at least not ...

Re: IBM 5100 Portable Computer, APL/BASIC
Any updates? I have a working 5110 that (thankfully!) survived shipping. Here is a video using the PALM sample machine code that (I think) Christian Corti came up with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I2bBNdsfGY Would love to verify if this same code works on a 5100 (but I don't think 5100's came w...
