Re: Dear Model F owners, can we talk? (Long rant)
minivan-sized (12.75x4u) keyboard 60% is small—15 × 5 units—so 12.75 × 4u should be even smaller. But a "minivan?" https://www.motorbiscuit.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Porsche-B32-Minivan.jpg Much too big! I think of my HHKB as roughly like a VW bug or a Mini, in keyboard terms. Which makes 40% ...

Re: Remove paint from F/AT keyboard case?
Seconding jsheradin.
I tried cleaning my F AT with isopropyl and my heart sunk when I saw I was removing paint.
I managed to sorta smooth it and hide what I had done by doing a 50/50 99% iso / water mix and a sponge.
So yeah, the paint is at least soluble in isopropyl alcohol

Re: Dear Model F owners, can we talk? (Long rant)
All this talk about buckling springs and smaller form factors is making my mouth water for BS 40s. There’s a Buckling Spring QAZ project that’s trudging along slowly, but what I’d be really interested in is a minivan-sized (12.75x4u) keyboard that uses buckling springs. Oh well. For now I’ll stick w...

Re: Does anyone still make keyboards with build quality comparable to a Model F or even an M?
Please don’t tell me you’re actually comparing something that was like 250$ when it was released (700$-ish now) to something like a 40$ keyboard in 2023. Yes people still do make heavy premium keyboards—they’re custom keyboards. I’ve been waiting a year plus for a metal keyboard that’s AT layout and...

Re: IBM SSK club!
IMO this counts more than a Unicomp one does. This was manufactured for IBM and is the same form-factor as an SSK more or less.
My 40%-using brain also loves that split bottom row (even if I primarily use big bar on my 40% keyboards).

[WTB] [US-OR] ISO AEKII Backspace or entire broken ISO AEKII
As the title says, looking to buy an ISO AEKII backspace because it is 1.75u. Or the entire keyboard if you’d rather that, assuming it’s broken and I’m not taking the backspace off of an otherwise functional keyboard.

There’s an eBay seller who has got some pretty good repro badges made for a variety of IBM keyboards. I wish he’d get some of the blue on grey made for both regular M and SSK. Maybe I should bug him about that…

I’m a bit late to this party, but here’s mine! https://deskthority.net/wiki/images/1/13/Seirin-Blu%E2%80%99s-RBY-DisplayWrite-SSK.jpeg Had to be screw modded because the barrel plate was cracked, and there’s a regular model m controller as well because the ssk one was dead. Re: Model F/AT ISO Enter key wobble
Not entirely sure if there’s a functional difference (I’d have to play around with some of my keyboards) but what color of plastic stabilizer is in the barrel? There are black and white ones. White ones for horizontal and black for vertical. I’d try a black one if you can fish one out from another k...

Re: Does anyone else feel the lack of a fullsize option ruins the Model F repro?
A bolt/screw mod is just driving a screw into a circular bit of plastic, thats it. You have to try very hard to botch a mod like that. I’m a bit late to this thread but I’ve seen someone do a screw mod by just screwing screws into the existing rivets and not even drilling pilot holes before screwin...

Re: A lighter Model M
A (much) simpler way to measure the force of the key presses, is to put they keyboard *on* a good kitchen scale and measure the weight difference when you press the key. IMHO I think it is pretty accurate method. If you do this you’re going to cause a moment/torque to form if the switch you’re pres...

Re: Can you use Soarer converter on Mac?
Something to keep in mind is that a lot of older keebs draw more power than a dock might expect a keeb to pull so you’ll probably have better luck plugging directly into the computer most of the time. Some mobile devices will also not expect/might not be able to supply enough power to some old board...

Generally DT is the least MX friendly place you could imagine. I can’t decide if this is a good or a bad thing. Generally it keeps low effort posts out, but it does mean DT is waaaaaay less active than some other keyboard hubs. I do really love the user focus on vintage boards though. Y’all enable ...

Would spray painted and then clear coated not hold up better than pad printed? I'm all for someone manufacturing more options, but I feel like pad printed ain't gonna last a super long time.
