Plastic, foam and rubber disintegrates with time and it gives off a smell, so I would say it is time for changing it.

Hello, I have made a crude drawing of the traces on my Model M so you can use it for repairs or debugging or to make your own, which I would if I could find thin electric tape.

Mine came with 10g springs. I have installed them so it went from 35 to 45g.
