I saw someone asked on YouTube about the sound signature of the Keymacs - is is the keycaps, or the chassis?
Lispnick and Chyros already did a few videos with sound tests, but I figured I would make another one.
My conclusion is: the sound signature is both chassis and keycaps, but mostly the ...

Re: Need advice on custom keycap manufacturing approach
Check out lispnick’s thread about recreating the Lisp keyboard. He has done extensive research and experimentation with different manufacturing methods. I think for the quantities you are looking for, injection molding will be too expensive (tens of thousands of dollars) but resin casting that he ...
Re: Endgame
Well, if you also like FK-5001… keyboards with white or blue Alps are a very deep rabbit hole. Omnikey series and Leading Edge DC-3014 are my favorite vintage boards.

Re: Alps Appreciation
If anyone has an Avant Prime or Avant Stellar that is not functioning properly, there is a good chance that this is because its EEPROM, which stores the key map and macros, is dead. The usual advice is to desolder the EEPROM and use the keyboard as a non-programmable one. But there is a better way ...

Re: Recreating the Lisp keyboard (10 years later)
My Keymacs has arrived a few days ago (thank you Lispnick for making sure it reached me before the new tariffs took effect!), and I have to say, this is the best looking and sounding keyboard I have seen or heard. I have never made a YouTube review of anything, but this time I may have to.

That looks like a Chinese/Taiwanese keyboard with zhuyin, cangjie, and dayi characters. I have a FK-9000 from early 90s whose original keycaps had the same layout.

Re: Help looking for custom Model M keycaps
I just finished with Unicomp on Friday; they took my payment; they had me setup the layout of what I wanted on a template for them, but other than them not having green 1.5 keys for my desired Option keys, they told me they can produce exactly what I want. The price was $50 for the setup and $43 a ...

Ah, I missed the front-printed Macintosh part.
Yes, that will definitely be a custom order. Contact Joe (Ellipse) on Deskthority or via his website (ModelFKeyboards.com), I am sure he can make a custom one, but there will likely be a minimum order quantity and some setup costs.

A couple of years ago I asked Unicomp for the same thing - English+Hebrew+Russian set, and they told me they could not do a triple language set, only their standard English+Russian in black and blue colors, or English+Hebrew.

Here’s an interesting one: programmable 4th Gen Omnikey, rebadged for “TietoEnator” (a Finnish IT company apparently), with some interesting macro keys.

Here is the photo of my F104 with those 3/4" rubber feet from McMaster. Combined with 1/8" adhesive rubber feet, the typing angle is pretty close to a Model M with flip-out feet extended, and the diameter is just right to leave the case screws exposed.

It is a tight fit, but I would install the case bolt inside the bottom case hole, then install the 1" bumper, and then install the bottom case to the top case.
I ended up buying 3/4 inch bumpers on McMaster-Carr (p/n 9540K932, if anyone is interested). They work well with the 6-32 screws that ...

So, I am trying to troubleshoot some issues with the "E" key with my new F104. Most of the time it works OK, but occasionally it does not register or registers twice. Reseating the keycaps several times did not help. I went through the troubleshooting steps in the manual, and in the Signal Monitor I ...

So, I designed and ordered a custom dye sublimated PBT keyset through Yuzukeycaps.com, and so far I have been impressed. They have a fairly intuitive online editor that allows you to design and fine-tune your own keycap set (background color, legend language, color, sign, alignment, etc.). The ...

I just find it hilarious that of all the keyboards in the world the one they found suspicious was the last keyboard that is mass-produced here in the US by a successor to the IBM OEM manufacturer.

There are a few aftermarket options although none of them seem to be perfect.
Topre Realforce RGB comes with MX sliders, but from what I have heard, they are also not as good as regular Topre mount sliders.

I type in three languages (English, Russian, and Hebrew) pretty regularly, and, unfortunately, I am not that great at touch typing, especially in Hebrew. Which means I need language stickers for my keyboards (at least the ones that I use often).

I also got lucky on eBay with an FK-2002. Definitely a project board: some parts (cover, AT/XT switch) were missing, there are a few rusty spots on the plate, a couple of switches weren't consistently registering, pad-printed keycaps were showing a lot of shine, and one of the plastic standoffs ...
