I have a question about the solenoid in the F104 (I had it preinstalled for me) - it's doing an odd thing where it works for an extended period of time, and then after a while it will start to "bind" (I think it is failing to retract). I then have to thwap the side of the case lightly, and it thocks ...

LOL my solenoid just stopped as well and I was googling for a fix and realized it might have just gotten stuck, so I rapped the side of the case with my knuckle and it came right back to life!

For those on the fence about getting a solenoid in their keyboard - after a few days of living with the solenoid on the Model F keyboard I can say it's not just a gimmick to make things louder - the feedback it gives really adds a kick and crispness to the keyfeel that you miss when it's turned off ...

dr_xadium I think you have posted the first Classic Case F104 keyboard review! Glad that everything is up and running. I was confused initially as I wasn't sure if that was a Model F or Model M in the photo upon first glance! It matches nicely with the IBM beige color of the computer.

I just wanted to post that I got my F104 today, and it's amazing.

I compared it side-by-side with the Model M which was my daily driver for the past year or so, and other than the lack of the IBM badge, it was virtually identical in person. Amazing design fidelity!

I am curious, for those who have been using the round 1 beam spring boards for at least a number of months, is there any feedback on the effect of dust intrusion on the sensing? Has anyone benefitted from opening up the board and cleaning it up, or is dust not much of an issue?

Sounds like something Chyrosran22 would be into. Surprised he hasn't got in touch regarding it. Big keyboards is kinda his thing. Especially if they're mechancal and built anything like the previous ones you have made.

Could it be insufficient voltage draw off the USB port? Maybe there's enough coming across to light the led but not enough to actually drive the solenoid?
