I have been using the M570 on my work computer for last 4 years now. (At home I have a Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical, which is the precursor model and looks very similar.)

I like the form of the device and the thumb action, because you can press every button while still being able to move around ...

You can modify the behaviour of input devices on Linux as normal user with 'xinput'. It should be available on any reasonably recent distribution (at least those using X.Org), but may not be installed by default.
