Re: Unicomp retired black 104/105 Classic models + latest on the Mini M SSK

Why does the bottom row of the new Mini differs from all other Unicomp keyboards? Does it serves any purpose to have [Space] [Alt] [Win] and not [Space] [Win] [Alt] ? So you cant get rid of the right Win key easily as on other boards. Hmm.

Besides that little nitpicking I'm eager to buy one. :P

Where else to put the pencil if not on top of your keyboard. Atm an Unicomp Ultra Classic at my office desk. 8-)

Re: Unicomp New Model M exploration & review

Thanks for your in-depth review. I think I have to get one sooner or later to add it to my growing collection of Model Ms. Two problems I'll face. Get one here in continental europe (with german layout in my case) and the blue lock lights. The first one is a real problem as buying it in US is a no g...

Re: 3D printable Model M parts/tool for pro micro conversion

The SDL socket has to be desoldered from the controller PCB to make room for the Pro Micro and the "holder", correct?

Re: Adding lock lights to an M122, read an thread but could not find it anymore

Today I have a free day so I could work on my M122. I've done a screw mod cause of some missing rivets and the need to change the single plus key to a double width one as on every number pad. PXL_20210125_131342853.jpg After that I soldered some kind of cable harness. Not the prettiest but it works....

Re: Replacement back label for model M

Thanks. I can provide you an LibreOffice Writer file. I know, not very sophisticated, but it worked for me very well. The barcode is in ITF format and starts with the part number.

If the outer and inner label numbers have to match, I'm unsure. I have to open another of my Ms to check.

Re: Replacement back label for model M

I have/had the same problem. My Model M losts its label some tome ago. I recreated it like this: viewtopic.php?p=476150#p476150

I have to aquire an thermal label printer to print it out. I tested a dot matrix printer and it did not look very good.

Re: Adding lock lights to an M122, read an thread but could not find it anymore

Unfortunately not. There were pictures in the thread showing how the wires were routed either on top of the barrel plate or on the underside. I'm unsure. The LEDs were glued using hot glue afair and when finally assembled the LEDs shined below the keycaps which looks very cool. On the Pro Micro side...

Adding lock lights to an M122, read an thread but could not find it anymore

Some time ago I read an thread here where someone added lock lights to an M or an M122 by wireing it up and placing LEDs right under the appropiate keys, like Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. I'm sure someone else read this thread too. I used several search terms but I cannot find this thread an...

Model M rainbow backplate revived

My recent aquisition, a rainbow backplate Model M with square label, got its screw mod. It was easier than I thought. After a trial run with a donor board I attacked the silver label. The board lost about 2/3rd of its rivets through its 33 years of use. It sounded very strange when I typed on it. So...

Re: Model M badge font

"Retron 2000" I aquired from https://www.dafont.com/bitmap.php?text=1386716+MANG&fpp=200. Its not 100% perfect, the type faces are more rounded, but I can live with it. I need to make another Copyright-Symbol through. I'll test print a label soon on a 24-pin dot matrix printer and "age" the label a ...

Re: Model M badge font

First try after a hint from the reddit-Thread. Its not perfect, but I'll work on it. The line spacing has to be improved for example. As I learned the outer and inner label differ on some minor details, esp. the BUILD TEST ..-line IMG_20201222_171556.jpg I have not cracked open the rainbow plate one...

Model M badge font

I'm about to bolt-mod my "new" silver-badge Model M. It came without an outer birth certificate. I want to create one, but I cannot find the right font for it. Does anyone know which font the UK plant used back in the days? IMG_20201221_122236.jpg The picture is the inner label and as far as I'm awa...

Re: My "new" square badge Model M with unusual sticker inside

@Rayndalf: No, mine does not have a rear sticker. I thought it could be fallen of through its lifetime. Keycaps seem original. But when they converted the keyboards from ANSI to ISO how did they manage to keep the rivets intact? They had to do some sort of bolt-mod if they removed the rivets alltoge...

My "new" square badge Model M with unusual sticker inside

I got a square badge Model M recently, so my little Model M collection is nearly complete now. Unfortunately its outer birth certificate is missing. Apart from that it is in good visual condition. I took it apart and found a lot of popped rivets, not that I didn't expected it. I think I'll have to d...

I managed to reassemble the Keyboard without causing any damage. *hooray* There are only two or three minor issues I don't know atm how to repair. If not pressed carefully enough the (bigass) enter key does not come back to the initial position. It stucks in the pressed condition. The keyboard did i...

I got it apart without breaking any clips. Indeed the springs and hammers are the same. The black one is from the M2, the white one I bought from Unicomp as a Model M replacement part.

Thankyou. After close inspection I counted 10 bent or streched springs and one missing. Nice summary (not). Tomorrow I'll source some replacement capacitors and hopefully the M2 is in working order really soon.

IBM Model M2 spring-compatibility

Hello there, with a little bit of luck and a spelling error I was able to aquire an IBM Model M2 for an reasonable price. The seller described it as working with one ore two stuck keys. Upon receiving it I checked it (removed keycaps using a wire key puller) and unfortunately I discovered some serio...
