Re: Found Some Crap-looking Mystery Gamer Keycaps

One of the fancier Dell keyboards had a very similar cross-like kind of stem. I don't know the exact model number or manufacturer, but if you look up "dell multimedia keyboard", it's the flatter one with a volume wheel above the sixkey but a normal-sized spacebar. The legends aren't the common Count...

Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)

Maltron's core proposition is the contoured design. You may object to Malt's reasoning, but it would require getting familiar with it in the first place. I'm not entirely convinced that some of her arguments are right… just as I noted in another thread , there might not be sufficient research to dec...

Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)

Please try and use the keyboard and then say how it's "not that bad". That's besides the point. I looked into Maltron layouts years ago (there you have a summary of the design principles) and eventually learned the dual-hand version that I happen to use on Kinesis Advantage2. It was quite straightf...

Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)

He's pointing out flaws in a horrible keyboard. You mean presenting a harebrained reaction to anything outside his comfort zone. Reminds me of Kübler-Ross model that I've seen applied to novel ideas (though it could be just as well the famous Mahatma Gandhi quote). denial anger bargaining depressio...

Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)

I originally hesitated whether I should reply, or not, and decided for the latter, but now that the thread is already here, I'm going to say it anyway: Chyros is an ableist piece of garbage and seems to be fishing for pewdiepie's audience of 13yo edgelords, I'm only waiting for a "heated gamer momen...

new Perixx thumb trackballs Perimice-720/520 [2020]

Perixx started making a new thumb trackball similar to Logitech M570 back in 2017. Wired Perimice-517 and wireless (proprietary) Perimice-717. Classic 34mm ball, 5 buttons including wheel, but extra two buttons for switching DPI (400/1000), rubber-coated and quite wide shape. It was decent. https://...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

correlation ≠ causation There's still no evidence that the model from that table is representative of "the real world" or that those attributes are the ones that actually matter. In addition, you're extrapolating from only two points (QWERTY and Dvorak) to the whole list of layouts. On the topic of...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

This is not surprising, really. Many studies have been done on the efficiency of QWERTY versus several self-proclaimed "efficient" layouts like DVORAK, and there is still no clear conclusion as to whether it works or not; no conclusive evidence has been shown for it to provide for faster typing spe...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

The inventor of RSTHD has open-sourced his programme, should any of us be qualified to dive in. There is about a dozen of such programs publicly available, and a semi-competent coder can make a new one from scratch over a weekend. Been there, done that. That's not the problem. The problem is figuri...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

Your use selective quoting to make it seem that the RSTHD layout is arbitrarily designed. The author goes on to explain he then went on to design an application to sort through the different configurations and, assuming that he based his scoring on correct assumptions , the winning layout would be ...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

I don't understand why the poll has some seemingly unrelated layouts (e.g. Norman and Workman) grouped together as though they were the same thing. Norman and Workman are very different. It would make more sense to either separate them, or just list the 3 or 4 more likely options and then have "oth...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?

Stenography doesn't help at all when most of what you type isn't natural language text, which is the case for many software developers. Why would you think that? You can have a shorthand for any (non-random) corpus, and coming up with one for a severely restricted formal language is likely easier t...

Re: [WTB] Ergonomic Keyboard

I have to strongly disagree about the "easy adaptation". Getting used to a columnar layout is as difficult as with any other keyboard and if anything, the right side that looks like on a standard keyboard confuses the hell out of me. For the record, I have no problem moving between standard and ergo...

Re: Linear switch for autoimmune arthritis: light or heavy?

Is there a reason to go this route over Matias Linears or Gateron Clears with o-rings etc. if the 30g Topres are almost linear anyway? You said you already have a Topre keyboard. Then it's a matter of swapping the domes/sheets. As for the knockoffs like Plum etc., I've never tried them so can't spe...

Re: Linear switch for autoimmune arthritis: light or heavy?

What about 30g Topre? Or even the cheap replacement sheets from Korea? It's substantially softer than 45g and in fact almost linear.
