Re: I'd like to have my account deleted

They’ve only got 9 posts including this one. Not much rot if they do wish to delete. The question of content loss vs. individual post ownership is more relevant when it’s someone who made a lot of material. The super cranky SSK reboot guy (Emmer Forever?) comes to mind. He nuked his stuff, which lin...

Re: Buckling Spring Recreations?

Yup. Manufacturing is expensive. No, really expensive. No, even more than that! How about you add a zero to the number you’re thinking of? Ha! Add another three, cheapskate! And remember it takes more than a single shot to get it right. You’re doing the work several times over, through prototyping t...

Re: Quarantine photo thread

Actually, this problem extends much further back than quarantine and has been snowballing over time into quite the monster. I've had a few major life changes in my sights for a year or two now. Stuff that that I should actively be working toward, because they aren't going to magically come to fruit...

Re: MOITOY - 85KB // My first build - Handwired 60% + Numpad + Extra Row

Very nice piece of work, especially for a newb! The details on the case corners and the Teensy holder are a nice touch. You even remembered to make the all important mistake during assembly, and recovered from it. Consider yourself a recognised DT maker! One thing which piqued my interest was your d...

Give him a couple of weeks to cool off. If he’s still swinging punches every which way like a drunken sailor with an inferiority complex, then it’s time to contemplate Matteo’s implicit question. Because like it or not, there’s always a line to cross, somewhere.

Sorry to break it to you, dick head, this is Deskthority, a community where we, the community, can behave as we see fit. You came here. What do we owe your whiny ass? Nothing! (Same value as your self awareness.) You don’t like it? Help yourself to a comforting bucket of go the fuck home.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I too have a very picky 3278. In fact, I had two for a while (sold the rusty one to Seebart) and I thought it was just condition that was to blame. Nope. Apparently some beam springs just aren’t friendly to a single threshold value, which is all that Xwhatsit ever supported. And two of them came my ...

Translation: please add extra obscure stuff that will increase the price and, uh, definitely sell more orders I guess? Motivated reasoning is a wonderful thing! I’m not against more choice. But I’m absolutely against forcing everyone to pay for it in the basic kit. There’s a real balance to be struc...

Re: new big skcm blue alps

MX had a really bad period, just when I was first getting into keyboards, which meant serious disappointment on first contact. Scuffy, inconsistent, downright nasty linear action; which is the only thing MX is fundamentally any good at! Colour me not the most impressed when I got my paws on them. Ch...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

As far as I know: no. They are not included in the USB keyboard standard. (Annoyingly, as volume up and down are!) On the Mac, I just map the two brightness functions to F1 and F2 in System Preferences and use those on my Kishsaver and other keyboards.

Re: IBM/Toshiba Model M7 POS Keypads

Ah, those sound very useful functions. The hard part may be in scripting them. To state the obvious, yet essential: you want the macro pad to be able to trigger the action no matter what app is in the foreground on your screen. I trust you have a cunning plan! (For what it’s worth, mine come in many...

Re: Verge is laughably clueless on Keyboards

^^ What these two said. Model F is a tremendous space saver compared to Beamspring, and is one of the very finest clicky switches ever made, in its own right. To be honest, I quite prefer it. Beamspring has something else again—that swing in its throw—but Model F is the real deal all by itself in th...

If you turn the key to the off position (according to your planned mod) does the computer throw a shutdown dialog, straight shutdown, or hard power off? Just wondering on the intended implementation! There’s a range of user experiences available. As for the macro pad: got plans for the macros themse...

Re: Two Brother Keyboards (KB-150 and WP-something)

Well, I’m quite willing to believe they could be very nice. But they're still membrane, in the end. That means full bottoming out is required. And that’s a different story from Topre. Actuation at midpoint is a game changer in all mechanisms. Maybe not for everyone—plenty users just wanna mash!—but ...

I’ve no interest in the UK layout myself. I strongly prefer ANSI (real left Shift!) and Macs are pretty much US layout here anyway, so I’ve long been trained on it. Re: Cherry MX Silent Red switch review

Indeed. I’ve put a few months of typing onto that board over the couple of years I’ve had it. But it’s a pale shadow of the NovaTouch it’s stored alongside, and gets less use because.

I also really dislike the fixed cable. But that’s not the switches fault!

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

Still for sale? I’ve plenty of caps and a fair few switches looking for a home. But I’m a picky snob! Ahhh but it isn't coiling them more, it's the gauge and total length of the wire. A coil spring is just a torsion rod wound into a coil. When you compress it you're just twisting the wire. If you ma...

Re: Cherry MX Silent Red switch review

One problem with silent reds—which I otherwise quite like—is their extra creaky springs. MX does have a creak to it, but silent reds seem to really bring it out. My silent red Filco is anything but silent on many keys!

We discussed it recently here.

Yeah, the wonders of a good set of switches and caps. It’s a lot of TLC required, but these gamer boards have decent chassis to work with.
