Try writing a blank config to it. That might clear things up. I have an empty null.sc text file for just this purpose.

Re: Funding keyboard tours Interest Check

Having run a tour or two, they tend to peter out of interest after a while. People don’t want second turns. Eventually, things wind up in someone random’s storage. That’s a good time to make them prizes I suppose. Indeed, we just did that with a Matias Ergo Pro the other day. I’ve got the first 5 it...

Re: Micronorth Keyboard

All XT keyboards are Keyboard ID: 0000. They have no way to tell Soarer’s converter otherwise. Unidirectional data stream. An XT keyboard just shows up and does all the talking. You can’t ask it anything.

Ah, that's what you were pointing out.

The more the merrier! Nothing wrong with PCB mounting *and* plate mounting the switches. One PCB design can be used with or without a plate that way.

Re: Unitech K-973 IBM I aint battle ship keyboard

The extra pins are for diodes. These switches shipped with diodes preinstalled by Cherry. The caps? I dunno. The closeup on the X key looks nice, like dyesub, but they yellowed like ABS, and even whitened back up in peroxide, too. Doesn't seem like PBT. Speaking of which: nice job on the case. Those...

Re: How do I fix membrane keys?

Like this? https://deskthority.net/wiki/Olivetti_ANK_27-102_N There is no capsense PCB in there. Membranes are a cheaper implementation. The best thing to do is open it up and clean it out! But if there are plastic rivets in the way (like IBM rather evilly put in the Model M) then you’re looking at ...

Yeah, it was me who nudged you in the unglamorous direction of MX red. They certainly get the job done. With a nice solid plate, and of course the right caps, they're good and cloppy as I like. Indeed, when I use mine, I always get the feeling they're the true proletarian Topre. Maybe if I ever lube...

Re: Apple AEK II, strange behavior combi de and lkjn

Didn't expect that! I did read once the AEK II has hardware rollover issues. Can't remember where now, it wasn't on DT. Someone had dug into the PCB trace and identified the original design shortcuts which caused the problem. That explains why the community PCB replacement Shallot linked to even exi...

Decent writeup. Kinda got my ears pricked and ready to go with what you made of the HHKB JP, and now you've snatched it away! What do you make of the itty-bitty-every-so-cute spacebar? Not just the size of it but the shape and the feel? And what have you done to the layout to make it useable as a no...

He's been at it longer than that. What do you think all those force curve measurements he's been gathering are for? ;) I can picture all manner of wild inventive stuff on a mechanism like this. Ergo weighting like on Topre is just the beginning. How about making keys lighter (or their tactile actuat...

Rollover bites! Model Ms (apart from some Terminal models) are usually pretty good for chording modifier keys. I’ve typed on SSKs for years (the tenkeyless space saving version of the regular Model M) and I chord a lot. Shift+Command+Control+F isn’t a combo I’ve tried but it sounds like it should wo...

I'd put a coil spring under the slider, so they still return to home even without power. Otherwise, the keyboard's going to be real floppy when disconnected. Should also save power draw. Active dial-a-force-curve mechanisms are a holy grail in keyswitch design. The idea's been around since, if I rec...

What you're suffering is a couple of artefacts called "blocking" and "ghosting", which are the symptoms of limited rollover . Feel free to read all about it; it gets complex . In a nutshell, limited roller is caused by the particular design of the 2D electrical grid the keyswitches are arranged in; ...

Re: Topre Realforce 104UG HiPro - iMac wake up issue

I'm guessing Mac problem rather than keyboard problem. Is it running Big Sur? My M1 MacBook Air can be fiddly to wake up in clamshell mode, from another keyboard. Big Sur seems quite flaky at wake, compared to the simple reliability of MacOS yore. To wake a sleeping Mac from a keyboard, all you need...

DIN midi >> USB midi dongles are fairly common. I used one when I borrowed an older Yamaha keyboard before I got my own. I've never looked for the reverse, however. Re: Oh my F***ING G*d!

Hmm. Looking it up, I see it's an old product— Creative EOLed it long ago , and its software is for Windows Me!— these reviews grumble about the keyboard being PS/2. That's a problem, because Midi keyboards all went to Midi over USB many years ago. (And you could indeed convert that to non-musical k...
