Re: Examples of Soarer Converter configuration files please

Ha! Thats one way to do it. Everything really has to be in CAPS? Space as underscore makes sense, and is a trivial layer select. But shifted letters are a tougher ask, as you’ve shown.

Re: Yaesu YK-901 Ascii Keyboard - "ALPSaver"

Alpsavers are indeed tres boss. The Kishsaver of the east! And I’ve got to say that picture of radio gear with one in action is way nerdier than the mundane bank jobs the ‘lil IBMs were made for. Are these guys converted yet? Or are they at the same tantalising stage the 4704 was at when I got my pa...

Re: Xwhatsit/CS-Compatible IBM 3277 PCB

The flipper does NOT conduct electricity between those pads. In fact, as I remember, the sense pads are all insulated. These boards are capacitive sensing, remember. No need for exposed conductors. Your PCBs job is to supply the controller a couple of reference points for each key, which the control...

Re: Model F Queries

You certainly can. I’ll just quote myself from another thread: The XT was my first mech, too. Here’s how I mapped it in Soarer’s converter for my Mac: http://deskthority.net/resources/image/8574 https://deskthority.net/post118083.html#p118083 It’s a beautiful feeling board. They’re compatible with Model M caps. You can mix and match quite safely.

But beware of funky sized keys on certain Model F layouts. XT: I’m looking at you, ya daftie.

Re: need help for setting up QMK env. for Windows

Does that send_string command work? Does the macro type that out when you use it on a text editor? First time I’ve seen it done that way! Anyway, my macro knowledge is from Soarer’s converter and Xwhatsit’s controller, but I believe this applies generally. Every keyboard “device” is a full sized key...

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

If I were a Windows guy, I’d probably put it on Caps Lock, or just use the default shortcut. Alt something or another? I gave a PC using friend a G80-3000 and he has no trouble going Winkeyless, doing just that. He likes my Realforce better—“how much for one of these full size and ISO?”—but he recko...

Re: [Tutorial] Cheapest IBM 4704 Keyboard USB Conversion

Yup, TMK speaks almost everything, 4704 included. I remember running this when I first got my Kishsaver and Hasu first supported them. I consider Xwhatsit's controller an upgrade, though, as I never liked the 4704's original cable, or its bulky end, and Xwhatsit's GUI worked well before Unimap. Nowa...

Soarer’s is smart enough to auto switch between XT and AT protocols. They’re almost the same thing, electrically speaking, so you don’t need to worry about busting anything.

Enjoy your IBM forbidden fruit!

Bear in mind that Space Invader springs aren’t as simple as those in MX and Alps. https://deskthority.net/w/images/2/2d/NMB_Springs_-_Tactile%2C_Clicky%2C_Spacebar.jpg As Wikipedia says : Progressive rate coil springs – A coil spring with a variable rate, usually achieved by having unequal pitch so ...

Yellows are indeed that pale, canary yellow colour when you see them in person. Take a look at the table: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Alps_SKCL/SKCM_series#Variants A lot of photos—especially by sellers who don’t know the importance—are just poorly lit, which makes things look darker than reality. ...

Re: XT/AT-cable with pcb connection

That’s a 5 pin DIN cable, ubiquitous in the pre-PS/2 days. The connection to the keyboard PCB is pretty common, too. I’m sure I have a few boards just like that. But none whose cables I can spare.

Someone may well have just what you need, though.

Re: Alps Appreciation

Here's some praise for damped Alps: I like them! Their tactility is fairly subtle, but much more tangible than the silly wee notch in MX brown. And the damping is great. Blue Alps are fun, but creams are switches I can really use, without a racket on either side of the stroke. I actually prefer the ...

Re: Yahoo! Japan Auctions Thread

The NMB is dramatically overpriced. They're fairly nice boards, but that one's nothing special (this one is) and doesn't call out three figures to me.

Kind of annoying to see keyboard inflation at work in Japan, too…
