Re: NIZ New V6/Pro series keyboard latest firmware update

Sid's a sneaky spy. Or he thinks he is, any any rate. But most times he shows up, people notice him. So much so, we have learned to give him the slip.

Oh, I bet our new overlords are enjoying their monthly cheques for $0.00 for DT's wealth of tracking info. The plonkers never even set it up right.

I don’t think he's crooked either. There's faster ways to make a buck on empty promises, a millionfold as fast!

But neither would I trust his parts to work in your keyboard without (ultimately irreconcilable) issues that will have you mucking around inside it so often it'll be as if that was your ...

I've no idea about Ellipse's bits in OG IBM hardware. Tbh, I suspect Wobbled is right about what you can expect to actually get from him, unless he likes your YouTube channel.

Where are you in the world? I've a few spares. I am, however, in the misty, mystical, interdimensional realm of Scotland ...

Re: Best vintage keyboard without spending life's savings?

Now that’s a Deskthority story! Welcome to repentance.

I was a kid at the time of ubiquitous mechanicals, so it was the adults around me who were doing the throwing stuff out. I generally liked the layout of the new stuff better but missed the clicking. Still, if the plug wouldn't fit the new ...

Re: Can you please help me to identify this keyboard

It's certainly not an Apple keyboard. The layout, however, is very Apple II.

https://i.pcmag.com/imagery/articles/01dwRRKtxYZOhyB7EAf25he-1..v1649253798.jpg

It will be an Apple II clone's keyboard. I don’t know much about those, but they were a thing of the late 1970s through the early 1980s ...

Re: Best vintage keyboard without spending life's savings?

I think youthful exposure to Model Ms really alters the equation. I grew up in the 1980s/90s, ironically just an hour away from (IBM's European production centre) Greenock but I don’t recall any experience with Model M before I got into keyboards in 2013 or so. In fact, I'd already been spoiled by ...

I opened up Discord for the first time in an age and added you by username. It's… a fidgety app for my liking, but evidently everyone's gone somewhere.

I certainly like the R4 features. I like an understated design so this one seems to call to me, especially in black, now I've killer caps for it.

If you see some discount Realforces from previous generations, do share. R4's sold out in Japan so I'll be waiting a while to strike lucky.

Even as a mod I have lost access to most mod functions.

The "Fobidden" error page we all see so very often now?

I find using the back button in your web browser will often work around it, and other times just delete everything after ?sid= in the url and you'll get through.

It's clearly just ...

Yeah, your R2 would need the Extension, Mods and Alphas kits. The mods kit is just this:

Enough for an HHKB or FC660C but not a Realforce's worth of keys.

I'd recommend the red or blue mods over the classic greys, myself. The ...

Speaking as another old-timer, the kind of linear switch I'd be interested in would be super smooth (obviously) and nicely damped on both ends of the stroke. Something with a real solidity to its slider, too, like it's on a metal rail. No wobble. No bullshit. And ideally, yes, indirect sensing ...

"Custom" third-party keyboards are a thing on iOS. I've only lightly dabbled with them on iPhone. Maybe there's something with a better layout for you out there, or ideally: a configurable keyboard you can design your own layouts for. Imagine!

So, I've been busy lately. One small project was helping out my brother with a control panel for his garage.
