Re: Help identifying a keyboard.

Just some rubberdome by the looks of it. The stern colourway in the last pic looks a little like Dolch. But not as classy, with those nasty silver nipples all across the bulbous swoosh of a top!

Re: Possible Unicomp SSK

I said this, many years ago: I think it's safe to say the Unicomp SSK is dead. This kind of quality control shows how much they're struggling. And, from what I've heard, they're on autopilot over there anyway. They could have hooked up with the big spending keyboard community (they're in the land of...

So it should. Fixed cables are barbaric.

Mind, I’ll believe the Unicomp SSK when I see it. This talk has been going on for years.

Re: Some bolt modding questions

Unicomp—incompetent as they are—do in fact sell SSK barrel plates. They just don't know what they are. https://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/CVSET Select: Frame 84 key. I bought one myself. Sold it just recently. As for sawing a regular barrel plate… nah. Case mods are one thing, but the barrel pl...

Re: Some bolt modding questions

Give the board a tilt, side to side, and listen for bits of plastic running around inside. My NIB SSK has several broken rivets. They can and will do that, all by themselves, with time.

Re: Burn him at the stake

You couched it well, my tasty chocolate friend, but your point remains that there’s something acutely irrational about IBM fans which compels them to polish a turd; as skilled as their polish may be. Their motive is your dispute. I don’t honestly think MX people are crazy. (Although the ones who jum...

Re: Burn him at the stake

What I’m on about is the need many people have to assert that others who are into a thing are cultists / goofballs / morons. I find that kind of disrespect to be a window into their own anxiety. I wish they could grow up and we could all move on. But such is the sorry state of the world today. I mea...

Everyone has a passion. Look, look, look at me! I have contrarian opinions! You’re all fools! And I need your attention to feel loved! It’s just so omnipresent on the internet. And as empty to observe as it must be within these wretched hearts. Gimme a break. Or as we often say in Scotland: “gies pe...

Re: Comfort Keyboard? More like passing interest turned obssession!

Your Teensy will run TMK quite nicely. There’s every hope for this keyboard yet. I’d start with a quick hex file for the ADB converter . That’s Hasu’s Unimap front end for TMK. You can do quite a lot of customisation with layouts there. Then simply flash the Teensy with the hex file it provides. Hoo...

True. Typical to myself, I have not even followed the link. I can imagine based on past experience. Right or wrong…

Is the guy meant to be famous or something? Opinionated lookitmeeee! quick takes are typically on platforms every bugger uses, for virality’s sake.

No, you’re right. Brits loathe you cheese eating surrender monkeys with an otherworldly passion, which currently drives them to a wild, wailing reverie of self harm.

But that’s no concern to us Scots! Well, once we’re shot of them.

Re: Comfort Keyboard? More like passing interest turned obssession!

Fin is quite right. Step 1 is figure out what protocol the keyboard speaks. If it has Command keys (look at the original caps: Command is beside the spacebar, often both sides) then it’s going to be ADB. ADB is an oddball, Soarer’s doesn’t speak it, you’d need TMK. ADB doesn’t have separate Data and...

Sure. But the banner at the top… There is currently a large backlog of orders. If you click on that you see a fairly long list of order numbers and a plea that the store is jus...

Re: My first handwired keyboard ever!!!

Pity the Proton is totally out of stock. It could be a very handy custom keyboard controller. Especially if I’m right in thinking it has a hand solderable USB breakout, so you don’t have to hack up awful bulky cables. Routing USB cables is my least favourite step in hand wired keyboard building, if ...

Re: DTA 2019 preparation

True. But the action on thread should be low enough to tally fairly easily. We don’t need scientific rigour or even a live count. Just a deadline, really. People will get a feel for it by taking part. If there is a better way to run polls, perhaps we could and should take that. But with the static “...

The trouble with said Cherry boards, though, is those damn MX switches. The caps are nice, and the reliability is superb, but the meh is always in there, too.

Exactly! I think we could do it all right here on DT without any formal infrastructure changes. Simply use straightforward regular threads in the initial round, and we count people’s votes based on them saying +1 in their posts. The only true poll needed is the final round for each award. Why I like...

But for what: moderating and posting the contest threads? Is that where the effort sink lies? I’d compress the contest like this: ...

Re: "bad" springs in Model F keyboard?

Better pony up for some of Ellipse’s fresh unicorn springs. (Someone ought to test them as spares at least.) I’ve had bent springs in Model Fs. My Kishsaver had one, if I recall, which I switched out the moment I got my eager, sweaty paws on it. Model F is far from immune to wear and tear and genera...

Haven’t watched the video yet. My bet is on Chyros kinda liking them (with complaints) and reckoning they’re better than MX, to wind up his fans. C’mon, it’s irresistible! Years back, I got a bag of these M8 switches, new old stock, with a custom keyboard build in mind. Never did get around to it. I...

Oh, wait, I’m still stuck in the old ways. Maybe this is what keyboards will look like once Scotty invented us transparent aluminium.
